Job Description The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for *REVISED* Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) Education and Accreditation Manager, UNLV Research Protections (REMOTE)[R0150824]
ROLE of the POSITION Working with the Director and Assistant Director, the Education and Accreditation Manager serves as a subject matter expert for the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) and is responsible for identifying, implementing, and evaluating educational programming for the UNLV research community. They will support the HRPP and Office of Research Integrity leadership by setting goals, planning, organizing, and leading educational programming related to research involving human subjects to foster a culture of compliance that protects the safety, rights, and welfare of research subjects. They will serve as a representative of the HRPP at UNLV, providing a mix of proactive educational programming and on-demand education, and along with the Director, will manage communications from the HRPP to the research community.
The HRPP Education and Accreditation Manager will also work with the Director and Assistant Director to develop and maintain institutional standard operating procedures (SOPs) and forms, and will work with the Director and Assistant Director in implementing any changes in process that result from development of SOPs and forms. They will manage the Office of Research Integrity web pages.
This position will also serve as the point-of-contact for the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protections Programs (AAHRPP). They will manage the reaccreditation process by keeping UNLV’s application current by regularly conducting institutional-assessment and gap analysis, develop and update policies and SOPs to reconcile accreditation gaps, lead site visits and handle other interactions with the association, and prepare annual reports. In addition, this position will work with the Director and Assistant Director to conduct quality assurance and quality improvement activities for the HRPP. This work requires close collaboration within the HRPP unit, as well as cross-unit collaboration with the RICO, and other compliance officers and units. This position works to implement continuous program improvements identified during QA/QI efforts, which may include education for researchers, HRPP staff, and working with the Assistant Director on IRB member education.
KNOWLEDGE Required
• Demonstrated knowledge, expertise and technical competence in a broad range of research administration issues, including regulatory compliance regarding university research related to human subjects, including but not limited to: federal, state, and local laws governing human subjects research, ethical research practices, common research designs and methodologies, and knowledge of HRPP operations and best practices.
• Subject matter expertise in human subjects research regulations, including the Common Rule, FDA regulations, and associated OHRP and FDA guidance, as well as experience conducting AAHRPP accreditation activities.
Preferred • Experience using the Cayuse Human Ethics platform.
• Educational background in pedagogy and educational practice, particularly for adult learners.
• Basic knowledge of accessibility considerations, such as knowledge of document accessibility, captioning of videos, etc.
• Basic knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS), particularly Canvas/Instructure products.
• Experience conducting QA/QI activities for an HRPP
SKILLS Required • Demonstrated experience as an effective educator.
• Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
• Experience facilitating asynchronous and synchronous education in a complex university environment.
• Demonstrated experience successfully collaborating across units to accomplish cross-unit goals and projects
Preferred • Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS), such as Canvas/Instructure products
• Experience using digital tools to deliver or enhance educational program delivery
ABILITIES Required • Ability to balance federal, state and local regulations, as well as campus and system wide policies and procedures.
• Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, and evaluate educational programs in support of the mission of the office.
• Ability to translate complex concepts into a format understandable by non-experts
• Ability to exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others and to maintain constructive working relationships at all levels of organizations. • Ability to communicate effectively using verbal and written processes, especially among diverse groups of people who may have varying degrees of knowledge about compliance regulations and policies. • Ability to balance the needs and desires of various stakeholders when conducting projects both within and external to the HRPP.
