What We Do The Regulatory Reporting Business Analyst is responsible for translating mortgage servicing regulatory data and reporting obligations into clear, executable reporting requirements and ensuring resulting deliverables accurately satisfy those requirements. This role serves as the analytical and operational bridge between ServiceMac's Regulatory/Risk teams, mortgage servicing operations, clients, and report development teams. The analyst is expected to understand the business processes and servicing data underlying regulatory requests, identify and resolve requirement gaps before development begins, and perform substantive validation of completed reporting. The role requires a combination of mortgage servicing expertise, regulatory reporting experience, data analysis capabilities, and disciplined requirements management.
WHAT YOU'LL DO • Review incoming regulatory data and reporting requests to identify required data, reporting periods, populations, calculations, classifications, and submission requirements. • Interpret regulatory reporting requirements and translate them into specific, development-ready data and reporting requirements. • Identify incomplete, ambiguous, or conflicting requirements before requests are submitted for development. • Research applicable mortgage servicing processes and data to determine how regulatory requirements should be represented in reporting. • Partner with Regulatory/Risk teams, operational subject matter experts, clients, and other stakeholders to resolve requirement gaps. • Document detailed requirements for SQL report developers, including data elements, business rules, calculations, populations, filters, reporting periods, and expected outputs. • Maintain traceability between the original regulatory request, documented requirements, developed reporting logic, and final output
Regulatory Reporting Validation • Perform substantive quality review of developed regulatory reports and data extracts prior to delivery. • Validate report results against documented requirements and the underlying regulatory request. • Interpret regulatory reporting requirements and translate them into appropriate reconciliation and validation procedures. • Develop and perform reconciliations, reasonableness testing, population validation, exception analysis, and other controls necessary to assess reporting accuracy and completeness. • Use SQL, Excel, and source data to independently investigate reporting results and validate assumptions. • Identify unexpected results, data anomalies, logic issues, and potential reporting defects. • Coordinate remediation of identified issues with development teams and appropriate business stakeholders. • Confirm that corrected reporting continues to satisfy the original regulatory requirement.
Mortgage Servicing & Data Analysis • Apply mortgage servicing knowledge to interpret loan-level, transaction-level, and servicing activity data used in regulatory reporting. • Understand the operational processes that generate or affect data included in regulatory reports. • Research unfamiliar servicing processes and proactively engage appropriate operational subject matter experts when additional expertise is required. • Evaluate relationships between business processes, system activity, data structures, and regulatory reporting outcomes. • Use relational database and SQL knowledge to research data, validate reporting logic, and investigate discrepancies.
Regulatory Request Pipeline Management • Own and actively manage assigned regulatory reporting requests from initial intake through final delivery. • Coordinate activities across Regulatory/Risk, servicing operations, clients, development teams, and other stakeholders. • Maintain visibility into deadlines, dependencies, outstanding questions, development status, validation results, and required decisions. • Proactively escalate risks that could affect reporting accuracy or delivery timelines. • Lead requirements, status, validation, and issue-resolution meetings as needed. • Maintain appropriate documentation supporting requirements, decisions, testing, validation, and final reporting.
Key Deliverables • Accurate and timely delivery of regulatory data and reporting requests. • Clear, complete, and development-ready reporting requirements. • Documented reconciliation and validation procedures appropriate to each reporting requirement. • Evidence of quality review and validation of developed reports. • Timely identification and resolution of reporting discrepancies and requirement gaps. • Clear documentation supporting the interpretation and implementation of regulatory reporting requirements.
