Job Description

Business Title(s):  Senior Claims Account Manager Employment Type:  Full-Time  FLSA Status:  Exempt  Location:  In-Office 

Summary:    We are looking for a highly capable Senior Claims Account Manager to join our team and work from our Albany, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Omaha, or Richmond office. We work together in the office five days a week in order to strengthen our culture, build team connections, and drive profitability.  This position reports into the VP of Program Claims who works from our San Antonio, TX office. This individual oversees a third-party claim administrator handling a discontinued workers’ compensation program on Argo’s behalf.   The successful candidate must bring deep workers’ compensation claims expertise and the ability to immediately provide meaningful leadership, technical direction, and accountability to the TPA handling the workers’ compensation runoff program. This includes strong command of compensability, medical management, litigation strategy, reserving, settlement evaluation, return-to-work considerations, regulatory compliance, and claims cost containment. The candidate must also understand that runoff claims management requires a different operating mindset than active business, with emphasis on disciplined reserving, targeted closure strategies, leakage control, recovery opportunities, expense management, data quality, and achieving optimal financial outcomes while maintaining appropriate claims handling standards.

This is a 100% in-office position. Candidates must be able to work on-site at a designated company office during standard business hours.

Essential Responsibilities:   • Drive runoff outcomes through disciplined claim strategy, accurate reserving, targeted resolution planning, litigation and medical management, cost containment, recovery pursuit, and timely closure where appropriate. • Provide technical direction on complex workers’ compensation, professional liability, and casualty claims, including compensability, coverage, liability, damages, exposure evaluation, settlement strategy, and litigation posture. • Monitor TPA and internal claims performance against Claims Administration Agreements, claim handling guidelines, regulatory requirements, financial objectives, and runoff management goals. • Lead audits, claim reviews, large loss reviews, and stewardship discussions, ensuring findings are documented and followed by specific corrective action when needed. • Use claims data, dashboards, audit results, and claim review findings to identify trends, leakage, stagnant files, reserve concerns, process gaps, and opportunities to improve financial outcomes. • Hold TPAs and internal claim handlers accountable for timely investigation, supportable reserves, effective medical and litigation management, prompt authority requests, and meaningful action plans. • Maintain continuity and claim handling discipline during TPA adjuster transitions, staffing changes, file transfers, or runoff program changes. • Support onboarding and oversight of additional runoff programs as Clearbrook acquires new companies, portfolios, or lines of business, including transition planning, TPA implementation, claim file transfer, authority protocols, reporting expectations, and governance routines. • Communicate regularly with actuarial, finance, legal, compliance, operations, TPAs, and senior claims leadership regarding program performance, adverse trends, reserve development, large losses, litigation activity, and runoff strategy.

Qualifications / Experience Required:   • Strong business acumen and understanding of how runoff claims management affects carried reserves, loss development, expense management, operational risk, capital considerations, and portfolio value. • Deep workers’ compensation technical expertise, including compensability, medical treatment, disability exposure, return-to-work, settlement valuation, Medicare considerations, litigation management, jurisdictional requirements, and claim resolution strategy and exception customer service focus typically obtained through: • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university. At least seven years of workers’ compensation claims experience required, including significant experience overseeing TPAs, complex indemnity claims, litigated matters, reserve reviews, settlement strategy, medical management, and regulatory compliance.

• Advanced technical expertise related workers’ compensation policies, claims resolution, and skills and knowledge of insurance and claims settlement principles, practices and procedures. Experience conducting claims audits TPA reviews, stewardship meetings, and performance assessments, with the ability to communicate findings and drive corrective action. • Strong communication, negotiation, presentation, and influencing skills, with the ability to lead through technical credibility and accountability rather than direct line management. • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to use claims data, dashboards, audit results, and financial reporting to identify trends and improve outcomes. • Ability to partner effectively with finance, actuarial, legal, compliance, operations, IT, TPAs, brokers, and senior leadership. • Strong execution orientation, with the ability to create structure, drive action, and produce measurable improvements in claim handling and financial outcomes. • Ability to manage multiple priorities across legacy programs, emerging runoff portfolios, and cross-functional stakeholders. • Intellectual curiosity and sound judgment, including the ability to challenge conventional claim hand
