About this role
Prepare and assist with Early Childhood Programs including Little Farmers Preschool and Learn and Play. Assist with festivals and special events. Assist with day-to-day operations of Farm Education programs. Prepare and present all programs offered in the most current “Field Trips and Outreaches” brochure, both on farm and in schools, libraries, and other community settings.
This is a part time (0-20 hours per week) position. Required Qualifications: • Associate’s degree in Early Childhood, Animal Science, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Education, or other related field, or High School Diploma and 2 years of volunteer or work experience. • One year of paid or volunteer experience working with children and/or the public. • Ability to learn how to drive a tractor, van and horse trailer and truck and livestock trailer. • Ability to lift 10-20 pounds unassisted. • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards, if required. • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood, Animal Science, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Education, or other related field. • Additional education and training in the field of education. • Additional education in the areas of agriculture, animal sciences, natural sciences, human development and consumer sciences. • Additional teaching experience related to educational areas listed above. • Experience teaching subjects related to agriculture, animal sciences, natural sciences, human development and consumer sciences.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions: Program Responsibilities: • Teach existing educational programs, as defined. • Present all programs offered in the most current “Education Programs for Youth” brochure, both on farm and in schools, libraries, and other community settings. • Deliver programs for birthday parties and family programs. • Deliver programs for festivals and special events. • Foster acceptance of program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences. • Utilizing established materials, serve as subject matter resource in discipline; provide standard responses. • Interact with program participants. • Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell or other land grant universities as part of program delivery. • Utilize a variety of proven educational methodologies. • May assist in providing educational program efforts via mass media. • Implement program evaluation as designed.
Administrative Responsibilities: • Assist with program organization including purchasing supplies, preparing and gathering materials, set-up and clean-up of all program areas as requested. • Complete necessary paperwork including purchase orders and program budgets. • Handle cash transactions from the general public. • Answer general program inquiries via telephone and email. • Register participants for special programs. • Maintain cleanliness of work environment and farm facility. • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities. • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned. • Participate in all required orientation, training, and in-service meetings and training scheduled or required. • Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the entire organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position. • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment. • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard. • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
POSITION DETAILS: Salary: $18 per hour Schedule: NONEXEMPT – TEMP: 0-20 hours per week No relocation or VISA Sponsorship available
