Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Job Description: The Academic Success Advising Coordinator at Barrett, The Honors College, supports the academic success and holistic development of honors students. This position leads and coordinates efforts to promote student retention, persistence, and graduation through proactive and personalized advising. The Coordinator also works closely with the Associate Dean and other stakeholders to implement unit-wide initiatives, support academic advising functions, and serve as a resource to advisors and students at the Downtown Phoenix campus.
Essential Duties: • Provide individual and group advising to a large cohort of honors students, supporting retention and graduation by guiding them through the honors curriculum and encouraging participation in meaningful honors community experiences.
• Promote Barrett-specific opportunities, including internships, research fellowships, study abroad, and other co-curricular opportunities and resources that align with students' personal interests and goals.
• Guide students through the honors thesis process, offering individual advising, thesis workshops, and online resources.
• Monitor student performance and proactively address academic concerns by responding to student inquiries, providing ongoing outreach and support, and escalating urgent issues as needed.
• Maintain accurate student records and utilize a variety of student systems and technologies, including Workday, DARS, Salesforce, and other university tools.
• Coordinate special projects and programs to support academic success and student engagement, including honors workshops, major milestone planning, and events.
• Participate in the development and assessment of advising policies, procedures, and initiatives specific to the Barrett student experience.
• Develop and lead presentations for Barrett orientations, student panels, and recruitment events to promote honors opportunities and academic support.
• Prepare reports, analyze data to identify student trends, and recommend strategies to improve advising impact and retention outcomes.
• Stay informed about key university and college resources, sharing this knowledge with new team members and colleagues.
• Participate in college committees and attend signature college events, including New Student Orientation, Fall Welcome, Family Weekend, Homecoming, the Celebrating Honors Thesis Symposium, and Convocation.
• Support college-wide advising and student services projects and initiatives as needed.
• Supervise Academic Success Advisor(s); contribute to hiring and performance feedback processes.
• Supervise student workers, as appropriate.
• Collaborate with Barrett leadership on the onboarding, training, and ongoing development of Downtown advising staff, including orientation to honors-specific practices, policies, and tools.
• Work with the Associate Dean to support the implementation and alignment of college and campus goals, policies, and advising outcomes.
• Lead college-wide academic advising initiatives, coordinating planning, implementation, and collaboration across teams to advance college goals.
• Lead or coordinate campus advising operations and strategic initiatives, including summer projects, process improvements, and implementation of new advising practices in collaboration with advising leadership and campus partners.
• Serve on Barrett or ASU committees as a representative of the advising team; liaise with faculty, staff, and university offices to support student success.
• Other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications: • Demonstrated experience working in academic advising in higher education, with a preference for honors or high-achieving student populations.
• Knowledge of student development theory and best practices in honors advising and retention.
• Ability to communicate complex academic policies and honors program requirements clearly and effectively.
• Experience designing, implementing, and assessing advising initiatives or student success programs.
• Demonstrated success managing student concerns and providing sensitive, timely support for students in distress.
• Experience supervising or mentoring student workers or peer leaders.
• Ability to synthesize and analyze data to identify trends and make informed decisions.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to work with a population of students, staff, and faculty.
• Familiarity with advising technologies and tools (e.g., Workday, Salesforce, DARS, Trellis, Canvas).
• Comfort and confidence in presenting to groups, facilitating meetings, and training staff.
• Commitment to enacting the ASU Charter.
Working Environment: • Office-based environment on the Downtown Phoenix campus, with some travel to other Barrett locations and occasional evening/weekend events.
• Involves frequent use of computers and standard office equipment; requires sitting, standing, walking, and occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs).
• Fast-paced work with frequent interruptions, shifting priorities, and student-facing responsibilities requiring discretion, sensitivity, and judgment.
Specific Hours or Schedule: • Monday - Friday 8-5, some nights and weekends
Salary: $48,600 - $56,250.00 per year; DOE
