The Senior Scientist will serve as a strong technical contributor and project leader focused on hands-on process development, experimental execution, data interpretation, and cross-functional collaboration in the field of conjugate vaccines.

You will join a larger team of scientists focused on developing conjugation processes for carbohydrate-based and other modality-based conjugate vaccines. Key responsibilities include developing and optimizing conjugation methods, analyzing glycoconjugates, supporting purification process development, and contributing to scale-up activities. The individual will be expected to independently plan and execute experiments, solve technical problems, mentor junior colleagues, and provide day-to-day scientific guidance while partnering with senior leaders to advance vaccine candidates through early development.

How You Will Achieve It • Provide day-to-day scientific leadership for assigned conjugation process development activities, including experimental planning, troubleshooting, data review, and coordination of laboratory priorities.

• Mentor and train junior scientists, associates, and new team members by providing technical guidance, reviewing experimental designs, supporting skill development, and modeling strong scientific rigor and documentation practices.

• Demonstrate leadership through influence by helping align team members around project goals, communicating technical priorities clearly, and escalating risks or resource needs in a timely manner.

• Design, develop, optimize, and scale up conjugation processes for glycoconjugate vaccine candidates, including evaluation of conjugation chemistries, activation strategies, reaction conditions, and purification approaches.

• Plan and execute scientifically rigorous experiments to support process understanding, robustness, scalability, and manufacturability of conjugate vaccine candidates.

• Analyze experimental data, interpret results, draw scientifically sound conclusions, and use findings to guide process development decisions and next-step recommendations.

• Present project updates, technical strategies, risks, and recommendations to internal teams, leadership forums, and cross-functional stakeholders within EBPD and Vaccines.

• Support technology transfer of developed processes to internal and external clinical manufacturing sites by preparing technical information, contributing to process descriptions, and providing troubleshooting support as needed.

• Keep abreast of scientific/technological development by participating in scientific meetings/seminars and through regular scientific review. Utilize new technologies and establish those technologies to improve conjugation process.

• Continuously evaluate each process and technique to determine if it is robust, appropriate, and scalable. If an operation has shortcomings or can be improved, uses expertise and imagination to suggest improvements.

• High-quality documentation of experiments in electronic lab notebooks, author technical reports as needed.

Qualifications • Applicant must have a bachelor's degree in science with at least 9+ years of experience; OR a master's degree in Organic Chemistry/Carbohydrate Chemistry with at least 7+ years of experience; OR a PhD in Organic Chemistry/Carbohydrate Chemistry with 0+ years of experience.
