Job Description: Johnson & Johnson is currently seeking a Senior Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to join our Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team located in Cincinnati, Ohio .
The Senior Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist will support the Ethicon Cincinnati EHS team in maintaining compliant, safe, and sustainable workplace operations, with primary responsibility for supporting and administering the site Radiation Safety Program. Under general direction and supervision, this role serves as a key radiation safety resource while also providing technical and administrative support across broader EHS programs, including workplace safety, environmental compliance, sustainability, risk reduction, hazard assessments, chemical assessments, accident investigations, emergency response planning, and EHS Management System activities. This position reports to the EHS Manager.
Responsibilities/Principal Duties : • Support administration of the site Radiation Safety Program, with primary focus on Ohio radiation requirements, license conditions, company standards, and site procedures, while also supporting OSHA, EPA, DOT, ISO 14001, Johnson & Johnson Worldwide EHS Standards, and applicable industry best practices. • Implement radiation safety policies, procedures, and work practices for the safe use, storage, handling, transfer, and disposal of radioactive materials and radiation-producing equipment. • Identify, document, and monitor radiation safety hazards, exposure concerns, contamination risks, and related impacts to people, property, and the environment. • Maintain radiation safety records, including inventories, use logs, surveys, leak tests, training records, dosimetry records, waste records, and documentation for inspections, reviews, and audits. • Compile and analyze radiation safety and EHS compliance data to support risk assessments, regulatory reporting, audit readiness, and inspections. • Facilitate EHS hazard risk assessments, job safety analyses, Management of Change reviews, and internal EHS program reviews. • Support EHS projects and programs, including initiatives related to EHS performance, compliance, waste reduction, ergonomics, sustainability, and continuous improvement. • Facilitate Biosafety and Biosecurity program, including completion of risk assessments, monitoring of lab activities and implementing effective procedures and operational controls. • Respond to EHS inquiries, complaints, feedback, and incidents. Support timely closure of Good Saves and related corrective and preventive actions. • Track, trend, and summarize EHS data, including incidents, injuries, and program metrics, to support monthly and annual reporting. • Identify waste reduction opportunities and support implementation of the site waste management plan. • Review Safety Data Sheets for chemical approvals and change requests and help maintain the site chemical inventory. • Participate on the Chemical Spill Response Team and Medical Response Team, including response activities, follow-up, and incident investigations, as required. • Participate on and lead applicable EHS teams and committees, including the EHS Committee, Ergonomics Team, Sustainability Team, and Biosafety Team, as required. • Plan and support employee awareness and engagement activities, including Safety Month, Earth Day, EHS fairs, hazardous waste collection days, and laboratory chemical clean-out days. • Follow company policies and practices, including PPE requirements, ergonomic restrictions, and completion of required regulatory and company trainings. • Complete other responsibilities as assigned. • Up to 10% domestic and international travel may be required as business demands.
Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree in: Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety; Radiological Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. • Bachelor’s Degree must include a course in Ionizing Radiation. • Prior EHS, radiation safety, environmental compliance, workplace safety, laboratory, manufacturing, or related experience preferred. • Personal computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Office 365. • Ability to enter, assess, and summarize data using spreadsheets and database applications. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with associates at all levels of the organization. • Ability to work independently and effectively with general supervision. • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow direction and manage multiple tasks. • Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers, associates, the public, vendors, suppliers, and regulatory agencies. • Ability to perform duties in accordance with governed policies and procedures and comply with regulatory requirements.
