In this leadership role, you will drive environmental compliance strategy, strengthen management systems, and champion sustainability initiatives that support both regulatory excellence and business performance.
You will serve as a trusted advisor to plant leadership, operations, and engineering teams—building strong partnerships internally and externally while fostering a proactive, solutions-focused culture. Position Sr. EHS Specialist Location USA, LaFayette, GA
How You'll Create Possibilities Environmental Compliance & Risk Management • Lead environmental compliance operations aligned with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Develop and implement practical, sustainable standards and processes integrated into daily manufacturing operations.
• Oversee air emissions, wastewater and stormwater management, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, recycling programs, and chemical management.
• Prepare and submit environmental permits, modifications, and required regulatory reports.
• Maintain accurate environmental records within the company’s EHS management system.
• Conduct inspections (SPCC, SWPPP, hazardous waste storage) and collect regulated stormwater, wastewater, and waste samples.
• Provide environmental oversight for demolition, facility modifications, and new product introductions.
• Lead sustainability initiatives focused on landfill reduction, energy performance, and long-term environmental impact.
• Perform internal environmental audits and proactively identify improvement opportunities.
• Utilize data analytics to evaluate environmental performance, identify trends, and mitigate risks.
• Lead and support environmental incident investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and preventive measures are implemented.
Leadership & Team Development • Directly manage and develop three team members supporting wastewater treatment and facility waste operations.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and coaching to strengthen compliance performance.
• Partner with regulatory agencies, plant leadership, and cross-functional teams to maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
• Participate in regulatory meetings and environmental steering committees as needed.
Management Systems & Continuous Improvement • Maintain expertise in applicable environmental laws and regulatory requirements.
• Implement and enhance environmental management systems to ensure sustainable compliance.
• Support change management initiatives and drive measurable performance improvements.
• Contribute to enterprise-wide best practice sharing and continuous improvement initiatives.
What You'll Bring to Our Team Position Requirements: • Demonstrated knowledge of EHS regulations and their application in manufacturing, budgeting and resource planning, change management processes, and contractor management.
• Expertise related to regulated air emissions is required; experience and a thorough understanding of the following regulatory areas are necessary: NESHAP/MACT standards, NSPS rules - NSR/PSD, state/local construction permitting requirements, reporting, ODS requirements, stormwater, wastewater, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, SPCC, EPCRA (Tier II and TRI), TSCA, and HMT.
• Working knowledge of the legislation, legal regulations, and industry codes.
• Ability to create a vision and develop strategies to implement the concept.
• Excellent leadership, program management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Able to work on a clear and measurable set of deliverables using own initiative.
• Competent to analyze data, draw conclusions, develop an action plan, and ensure sustainable execution.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks, priorities and organize records/deadlines to meet compliance obligations.
• Experience responding to emergencies such as fires, spills, and injuries.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
• Strong organization, project management, and presentation skills. Ability to interact with all levels of business and with external stakeholders.
• Proven problem-solving and achieving sustainable performance results.
Minimum Qualifications: • BS or BA Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Occupational Safety & Health, or related discipline/experience. • Legal authorization to work in the country/region where the business is hiring is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job.
Preferred Qualifications: • 3-5 years of EHS experience leading and implementing environmental compliance, and risk management programs with proven sustainable results. • CHMM or related certification.
• Experience with industrial wastewater treatment plants and or wastewater operator certification.
• Knowledge of NPDES permitting.
• ISO 14001
• Advanced computer skills, including substantial data analysis skills.
• Six Sigma Green belt certified.
Working Conditions: • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. • Work may involve lifting materials and products up to 50 pounds.
