Position Overview As Genentech advances innovation across a broad and complex portfolio, Product Public Relations plays a critical role in shaping stakeholder understanding, market readiness and business impact.

The Senior Director, U.S. Product Public Relations - Neuroscience & Ophthalmology serves as the communications leader for assigned therapy areas, setting U.S. strategy and leading integrated communications that advance business and portfolio priorities. The role develops long-term narratives, shapes stakeholder engagement, identifies external opportunities and risks and ensures the organization is positioned to successfully engage stakeholders across the healthcare ecosystem.

As a strategic partner to senior U.S. business leaders, this individual brings an external perspective to market shaping, launch readiness and business-decision-making by translating audience, media and stakeholder insights into actionable recommendations.

Key Responsibilities   • Therapy area leadership: Owns communications for assigned U.S. therapy area(s), setting overarching strategy, establishing priorities and ensuring high-quality execution of integrated communications plans. • Strategic business counsel: Provide strategic counsel to business leaders, bringing a deep understanding of external audiences, market dynamics and emerging trends to inform critical business decisions. • Narrative & market shaping: Develop and lead long-term narrative and market-shaping strategies that build understanding of disease, science and innovation create the external conditions for portfolio and launch success. • Integrated communications: Develop integrated communications strategies across earned, owned, shared and paid channels that prepare patients, healthcare professionals, advocacy organizations, policymakers, healthcare decisionmakers and other stakeholders for evolving standards of care.  • Innovation & future channels: Advance innovative communications approaches that meet patients, HCPs and other audiences where they are, including emerging platforms, creators and new models of engagement. Contribute to Genentech’s visibility and authority in AI-driven search and platforms, ensuring credible scientific and product information is discoverable and accurately represented. • Milestones & reputation: Oversee communications for key clinical, regulatory, launch and business milestones. Ensure efforts drive sustained engagement, not one-time awareness. Advise on reputation risks, issues management, and stakeholder concerns. • Media & external influence: Lead U.S. media strategy across assigned TA(s) and build sustainable relationships with key reporters, content creators and other external audiences. • People & functional leadership: Lead, develop and empower a high-performing team of communications professionals, setting clear priorities and accountability while building capabilities for the future. Serve as an active member of the Product PR leadership team and contribute to strategy and impact across the broader function. • Enterprise partnership: Partner with Commercial, Medical, Access, Corporate Communications, Government Affairs, Patient Advocacy and other functions to support successful stakeholder engagement and market readiness. • Measurement & stewardship: Use analytics and stakeholder insights to inform strategy and optimize impact. Lead agency partnerships and manage TA budgets by exercising good financial stewardship.

Required Experience • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred. • 15+ years of experience in communications, corporate affairs, public relations, public policy, marketing or related fields. • Proven success leading communications, stakeholder engagement or market-shaping strategies. • Experience partnering with senior leaders and influencing cross-functional decisions. • Strong understanding of U.S. healthcare stakeholders, policy, media, patient engagement, and market dynamics. • Ability to translate complex scientific, business, and policy issues into clear narratives. • Strong strategic thinking, executive presence, communication, and relationship-building skills. • Familiarity with AI-enabled communications, stakeholder intelligence, and emerging platforms. • Experience using analytics and insights to inform business decisions. • Experience managing and developing direct reports.

This position will be based in South San Francisco, there is no remote option available. Relocation benefits are available for this position

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $196,800.00-$356,600.00.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law .  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.   This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
