**This position is 100% in office.**
This is advanced, specialized work in the Department of Revenue involved with analyzing tax returns for complete and accurate information. Communicates with all levels of staff including management to resolve tax issues. Is an expert in specific tax categories and provides technological and procedural assistance to resolve complex tax issues. Collaborates regarding complex tax situations involving statutes, regulations, and other policy matters. Ensures returns are processed efficiently, accurately, and timely. Updates and writes procedures as needed. Provides institutional knowledge and system changes suggestions required to implement and support multiple tax programs. Receives and provides written and verbal communication to resolve taxpayer filings.
Job Duties include: 1. The Revenue Senior Agent resolves complex issues that cannot be resolved by teammates and answers complex processing questions from management and staff within the agency regarding tax programs. This includes written correspondence and phone calls with taxpayers, accountants, attorneys, and other authorized representatives.
2. Continual monitoring of teammates’ daily work performance and providing input to supervisors for initial probation and performance evaluations.
3. Identifies internal programming and software issues and resolves with IT staff.
4. Extensive one on one training of teammates.
5. Is a work leader who plans, directs, and assigns work with limited supervision.
6. Responsible for making computer system suggestions to improve the accuracy and efficiencies for processing tax returns, testing new changes prior to implementation to ensure a proper outcome. Create and maintain procedures for all processes in assigned area. Requirements/Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s Degree in business plus two years of experience with tax return preparation, business ownership and operation, account research and analysis, or interpretation and application of policies, laws, rules, or regulations. OR Three years of increasingly responsible experience with tax return preparation, business ownership and operation, account research and analysis, or interpretation and application of policies, laws, rules, or regulations.
Preferred: One-year experience in researching and analyzing tax returns and interpretation of tax policies, laws, rules, or regulations.
Knowledge of: leadership/supervision principles and practices; mathematics and accounting; business operations and practices; information technology; resources available for researching laws, rules regulations.
Skills: identifying trends and/or unique sets of data; recognizing priorities; good judgment and logic in solving problems.
Ability to: plan, assign and monitor the work of others; manage and set multiple priorities; communicate to express clear and concise ideas; use deductive techniques to determine information sought; organize and verify tax data/information from computer generated reports; relate effectively with people representing a wide variety of backgrounds; interpret difficult tax programs for taxpayers; use independent judgment and discretion in solving problems.
