About this role
About the Team
OpenAI’s mission is to ensure that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity.
The Business Marketing team contributes to our broader mission of ensuring responsible and widespread adoption of artificial intelligence by developing and executing strategies that drive awareness, engagement, and usage for OpenAI’s products and platform amongst core business audiences.
The Strategy & Operations function supports Business Marketing with operating models and cadences; strategic planning; portfolio, resource, and investment management; measurement and organizational learning that empower our teams to move at pace with clarity and confidence.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Resource Manager that will put the right work in the right place, with the right people, at the right level of effort.
Creative work is where the portfolio becomes real. You will work closely with creative teams, integrated marketing, product marketing, agencies, regional teams, and leadership to ensure high-priority work has a realistic path forward. You will create clarity for teams on how to move fast, using intuitive and simple processes rather than adding complex systems or bureaucracy.
This role owns the front door to business creative and integrated marketing work: intake, triage, prioritization, routing, staffing, and capacity planning across product campaigns, line-of-business motions, integrated marketing programs, launches, regional requests, and one-off asks. Because of that, this role requires a strategic thinker who applies rigor and judgment to every new idea. You will independently assess what matters most, clarify the real need behind the ask, and determine whether work should be grouped into an existing campaign, routed to another team, self-served, supported by an agency or contractor, deferred, or declined.
This role may be based in San Francisco or performed remotely, subject to approved hiring locations and recruiting guidance.
In this role, you will:
- Own the Business Marketing portfolio system, including intake, work classification, prioritization, routing, resource assignments, capacity visibility, and decision tracking.
- Evaluate incoming requests against business priorities, strategic importance, urgency, audience impact, readiness, required skills, and available capacity.
- Independently recommend what should move forward, what should be grouped with related work, what should be self-served, what should be redirected, and what should be deferred or declined.
- Turn fragmented asks into coherent programs by identifying patterns, shared audiences, overlapping deliverables, reusable assets, and opportunities to batch work.
- Match work to the right internal team, creative discipline, agency, contractor, regional partner, or self-service path based on skills, capacity, complexity, and business impact.
- Build creative solutions when resources are constrained, including sequencing, scope reduction, reuse, agency support, contractor support, self-service options, and alternative delivery paths.
- Balance urgency with importance, making clear tradeoffs when every stakeholder believes their work is urgent.
- Maintain a trusted view of capacity, demand, staffing gaps, bottlenecks, and upcoming portfolio risk.
- Create clarity across global strategy teams, global execution teams, Business Marketing, Consumer Marketing, and shared services where ownership, budgets, or operating models overlap.
- Build lightweight tools, workflows, reporting, and AI-enabled systems that improve intake quality, resource decisions, and portfolio visibility over time.
- Communicate difficult decisions clearly and constructively, helping stakeholders understand the rationale, alternatives, and next steps.
You might thrive in this role, if you:
- Bring 7+ years of experience in creative operations, resource management, portfolio management, integrated marketing operations, agency operations, production, or consulting.
- Strong understanding of how integrated marketing, creative, PMM, brand, agencies, content, web, events, and regional teams work together; preferably within a fast-paced tech environment.
- Excellent business judgment and the confidence to make prioritization and resource decisions independently.
- Experience managing constrained creative resources across multiple disciplines, projects, campaigns, stakeholders, and timelines.
- A systems mindset: you can see patterns across work, identify duplication, create useful operating models, and improve workflows without overengineering them.
- Comfort navigating highly matrixed organizations where teams, budgets, resources, and decision rights do not always align.
- Strong stakeholder instincts and the ability to redirect, defer, or decline work while maintaining trust.
- Data fluency and comfort using tools, dashboards, and AI-enabled workflows to improve resource planning and decision-making.
- A calm, practical approach to ambiguity, competing priorities, and high-pressure environments.
