About this role

Program and Engagement Coordinator

Beach Hillel

Role Overview

Make your mark on Jewish student life by joining Beach Hillel as the Program and Engagement Coordinator. You will build one-on-one relationships with students, plan and execute engaging events and programs around campus, and help inspire students to make a commitment to Jewish life. You will spend most of your time with students on the ground and with a team to help inform your strategy, provide tools to achieve high impact, and to help you build your professional network.

You will join a thriving Jewish community and Hillel team, located halfway between Los Angeles and Orange County, and very close to the beach and on the cusp of great growth. Beach Hillel serves six campuses: California State University Long Beach, California State University Dominguez Hills, Long Beach City College, Cypress College, Golden West College, El Camino College, and Cerritos College. Beach Hillel provides programming, resources, and events on campus, primarily at CSULB's Beach Hillel room, and off campus at the Alpert Beach Hillel House, located in Long Beach, CA.

You will join a team of seasoned local Jewish professionals with deep ties to the larger Long Beach, LA, and Orange County Jewish communities to help you develop and sharpen your skills, build relationships with community stakeholders and partnering organizations, and to provide opportunities for growth in real time. You will engage Beach Hillel's student population, largely made up of commuter students, working students, and students who are already experts in their field, while they finish earning their credentials. They are often unengaged in Jewish life before joining Beach Hillel's Jewish life programs and initiatives. You will be their first (or first of few) opportunities to learn about what it means to be Jewish. You'll wake up each day (or at least most) and be genuinely excited and enthusiastic about creating an inviting place that inspires students to explore, experience, and create vibrant Jewish lives. This is so much more than your average 9-to-5.

About the Program and Engagement Coordinator Position

The Program and Engagement Coordinator is a position centered around relationship building. You will be an integral piece in the building of a strong Jewish community at Beach Hillel's six campuses.

Trained in Relationship-Based Engagement (RBE), you will be exposed to the most successful initiatives from across the Hillel movement. You will work with students to imagine, create, and refine experiences for Jewish life that dramatically impact student engagement, efficiently and strategically apply and scale successful initiatives from across the movement, and give birth to

cutting-edge ideas that have the potential to transform how Hillel creates inclusive spaces for #AllKindsOfJewish.

We're looking for people who embrace challenges, take risks, fail, and learn from the past, while maintaining their passion and sense of humor. Extensive Jewish education is not necessary — just an interest in creating a vibrant Jewish community, a commitment to learning, and the desire to make a difference in the lives of students.

What You’ll Do

• Utilize RBE to meet with students on and off campus to engage them, identify their interests, connect opportunities, and share these learnings with the entire Beach Hillel team.

• Track student engagements in our relationship tracking software and keep an up-to-date record of information learned in engagements.

• Map out a plan to strategically build one-on-one relationships with students.

• Recruit students for various weekly programs and events, holiday dinners and programs, community volunteering opportunities, and larger initiatives like Birthright, Shabbat on campus, and any other collaborative programming with outside organizations.

• Support student leadership and build relationships with university staff to facilitate the on-campus Beach Hillel Club.

• Plan, support, and facilitate tabling on all six campuses.

• Maintain student-facing communication via text message, WhatsApp, social media, and other platforms.

• Help promote Beach Hillel events by creating flyers and keeping up with communication among the student body we serve.

• Co-teach or teach Jewish learning modules based on student needs, organizational strategy, and your area of expertise.

• Coordinate bridge-building work with other cultural and religious groups on campus.

• Support and guide student leaders to enhance campus initiatives, ensuring impactful and innovative programming that resonates with diverse student needs and interests.

• Participate in immersive professional development experiences, including Hillel International training and conferences.

• Spending mornings, afternoons, and potentially evenings on campus outside of programming to spend time with students and to engage new students.

Who You Are

• You're a Relationship-Builder: You thrive on meeting new people, understanding their interests, and forging meaningful connections.

• You're a Collaborative Team Player: You enjoy working collaboratively with a team to solve problems and explore new initiatives.

• You're a Passionate Learner: You love learning and continuously building up your Jewish knowledge.

• You're an Innovative Educator: You believe in infusing education into captivating experiences that stimulate the imagination.

• You're a Facilitator: You thrive in creating spaces for students to converse, share ideas, and explore and develop their own ideas on relevant issues.

• You're a Recent College Graduate: Whatever your degree, you are excited about Jewish life on campus and have experience as a participant and perhaps even as an educator in a Jewish educational setting.

• You're a Creative Thinker: You are constantly reimagining the ordinary, seeking ways to repurpose and improve things.

• You're a Bold Visionary: You think big and creatively, viewing everything as a poss
