Shuttleworth in Huntington, Indiana is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering Team. In this role, you will provide design efforts from inception through production both in new product design and existing product redesign mechanical and electromechanical products and systems.
///////////////////////////////////////////////// Does this work interest you? • Design, develop, and detail specialized conveyor systems, using standard and custom components, that meet customer requirements and are delivered within a defined schedule and scope.
• Work alongside other team members, within the Mechanical department, and other departments involved in the project, to efficiently complete high-quality projects for our customers (project management, controls engineering, assembly, service, etc.)
• Create custom machine designs for unique consumer products, solving unique challenges for our customers.
• Lead design reviews and evaluate peer designs for improvement and feedback.
• Concept for mechanism, this includes defining exactly what the mechanism is required to do, determining the expected loads and speeds, selecting the main purchased components, planning the framework and mounting hardware, and producing an accurate, scalable drawing for the next phase.
• Work with customers through the design stage to integrate a system mechanically and electrically with existing or new equipment.
• Become an integral part of R&D and participate in designing new and complex products for our systems.
• Create detailed drawings for unique parts, this involves producing all drawings required by the fabrication department or an outside vendor to manufacture components of our systems. This requires selecting materials and finishes, welding symbols, assigning tolerances, etc.
• Bill of material, this includes creating item numbers and descriptions in our ERP system, calculating quantities and assigning raw materials to manufactured items, then arranging all items for a project into a logical series of sub-assemblies.
• Participate in various capacities in all phases of a project (design, manufacturing and assembly support, testing, and customer acceptance)
• Problem-solving complex issues that arise, this includes anything from clarifying a drawing to redesigning parts that don't fit or can't be assembled, to processing late changes from the customer and evaluating suggestions for improvements.
• Assist Sales and Application Engineering in preparing concepts and reviewing customer requirements.
• Assist R&D with conceptual designs and detailed drawings.
• Assist with various service and aftermarket questions.
If this sounds like you, we want to connect! • BS from a four-year college or university or technical school in a mechanical field of study with 5+ years of experience, -OR- • 8+ years related experience and/or training, -OR-
• Equivalent combination of education and experience
• Knowledge of packaging machinery, conveyors, and manufacturing processes is preferred.
• Some travel is required, up to 5%
• AutoCAD 2D, 3D (Inventor preferred), and mechanical design experience required
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with the ability to re-prioritize as required.
• Strong written, communication, and presentation skills are critical.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
