About this role
For more than 55 years, Family Health Centers of San Diego’s (FHCSD) mission has been to provide caring, affordable, high-quality health care and supportive services to everyone, with a special commitment to uninsured, low-income and medically underserved persons.
FHCSD is one of the top 10 largest federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) in the country. We operate more than 90 sites across San Diego County, including 29 primary care clinics, 23 behavioral health facilities, 10 physical rehabilitation clinics, nine dental clinics, five vision clinics, four outpatient substance use treatment programs, three mobile medical units, two mobile counseling centers, two urgent care centers, and a pharmacy.
Our staff provides care to over 227,000 patients each year, of whom 91% are low-income and 29% are uninsured. FHCSD provides care to all. Services include, but are not limited to adult care, chronic disease management, pediatrics, comprehensive women’s care including obstetrics, dental, vision, case management, physical rehabilitation, speech therapy for children, vaccinations, infectious diseases, behavioral health, substance use counseling and a host of specialty services including cardiology, podiatry, endocrinology, dermatology, among others. FHCSD also offers supportive services to those who are unsheltered and in need of intensive case management.
The breadth of our clinic locations, services and programs has grown over the last five decades, making us the largest community clinic provider of health care to the uninsured in the county and one of the top 10 largest community clinic organizations in the nation. We are also the largest health care safety-net provider, largest school-based health care provider and the largest mental health provider in the San Diego region.
Job Roles Lifecycle Ownership (End-to-end) • Procurement Coordination: Work with leadership team to create/submit purchase requests, validate vendor quotes, track orders, and ensure SKUs, models, warranties, and entitlements are captured correctly. • Receiving & Intake: Receive shipments, verify quantities/specs based on purchase order, inspect for damage, and log assets with serial numbers into IT asset management and purchasing systems upon receipt. • Asset Tagging & Inventory Control: Affix asset tags, log assets into IT asset management system, update location, and custody records (department, user), and maintain accurate stock levels for hardware and accessories. • Imaging & Configuration for Deployment: Build and apply standard images/profiles, install approved software, and validate device readiness. • Deployment & Handover: Coordinate with IT Support and Project Management teams for deployment, capture acceptance, update ownership/custody, and document configuration details in the IT asset management system. • Moves/Adds/Changes: Execute device swaps, upgrades, and location moves; maintain “chain of custody” documentation and accurate state. • Returns & Recovery: Process used/loaner/retired assets returned from users; assess condition, perform data sanitization per policy, and decide to redeploy/repair/e-waste disposition. • E-Waste & Disposition: Manage compliant disposal with approved vendors; document certificates of destruction and maintain auditable records (including media sanitization logs).
Software Asset & License Management • Track software entitlements, versions, and allocations; assist with true ups/renewals. • Reclaim licenses from retired devices; prevent over-deployment and ensure compliance with vendors. • Maintain application catalogs for standardized imaging/deployment. • Data Integrity & Asset Management System Administration • Maintain high quality asset records (serial number, model, warranty, custodian, location, status). • Reconcile system data (e.g., AD/MDM discovery as needed) with physical counts. • Run scheduled audits and cycle counts; resolve discrepancies and stale records proactively.
Security & Compliance • Follow HIPAA policies for safeguarding PHI; ensure devices meet security baselines (disk encryption, endpoint protection). • Perform media sanitization aligned with NIST SP 800-88 standards prior to redeployment/disposal. • Support audit requests from Security, Compliance, and Finance with evidence and reports.
Continuous Process Improvement • Document workflows (SOPs, runbooks) and drive improvement. • Identify and implement automation opportunities. • Track and reduce cycle times (order-to-deploy, return-to-redeploy), error rates, and data gaps.
Stakeholder Support & Communication • Provide status updates to requestors; coordinate schedules with IT leadership team to minimize disruption. • Train Service Desk/Desktop Techs on asset handling procedures. • Collaborate with Procurement and Finance on budgeting, capex/opex tracking, and cost optimization.
Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree preferred, Associate degree with relevant experience will be considered. • On-site required (no hybrid and/or remote). • Traveling between clinic sites – approximately 80 plus sites. • Traveling between sites and other locations is required as an essential function of the job. Must have a car, a valid California driver’s license, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended. An acceptable driving record is also required. California law requires all drivers to obtain a valid California driver’s license within ten days of establishing residency. Mileage and other reimbursement governed by policy. • A+ or similar certification preferred. • ITIL Foundation certification preferred.
Experience/Specialized skills (including Language) • Experience: 2-4 years in IT asset management, desktop support, or IT operations required; healthcare IT environment preferred. • 4+ years of relevant experience preferred. • Compliance & Standards: Working knowledge of HIPAA, ITIL, NIST SP 800-88 media sanitization, and e-waste pract
