Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma and two-years (2) experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Job profile Summary: Serves as a certified trades worker in an area of specialty to ensure proper installation, modification, and repair of related systems. Job Description: Facilities Management, Tempe campus, seeks HVAC Technicians to perform preventive maintenance, repair, overhaul and maintain heating, ventilating, air conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration systems.

This position is based on the Tempe campus but will require working at other ASU campus locations based on program need.

Essential Duties:

HVAC Technician I • Perform preventive maintenance tasks (e.g., filter and belt replacement) • Perform equipment diagnostics and repairs • Interpret HVAC schematics and wiring diagrams • Document work performed and ensure compliance with safety procedures • Support on-call duties and emergency response • Work under the guidance of senior staff

HVAC Technician II • Perform repairs on chillers, boilers, air handlers, compressors, and controls • Conduct preventive maintenance, system diagnostics, and performance tests • Support on-call duties and emergency response • Train and mentor junior technicians as needed • Maintain accurate service logs and reports

DAYS AND SCHEDULE   Monday – Friday, 6:30am – 3:30 pm

SALARY RANGES

HVAC Technician I: $26.00- 30.00 per hour.  ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona.

HVAC Technician II: $30.01- 34.00 per hour.  ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona

Desired Qualifications:

HVAC Technician I • Basic HVAC knowledge: air handlers, VAVs, exhaust systems, DX units • Competency with hand tools and basic diagnostic equipment • Ability to work safely with refrigerants and tools

HVAC Technician II • Strong understanding of HVAC systems and controls • Ability to read and interpret complex schematics and as-builts • Proficiency in troubleshooting and using digital instrumentation • Familiarity with chilled water systems, DX equipment, and airflow mechanics

Working Environment: • Utilize power tools (e.g. drills, generators, saws, lifts, vacuum equipment). • Climb ladders, ladder wells, and stairs.   • Work off ladders using hand tools and power tools to include working off lift platforms and boom trucks at heights above six feet. • Use lifting, moving, and rigging equipment to safely move, transfer, or relocate heavy equipment. • Operate refrigeration recovery equipment in compliance with EPA guidelines. • Handle CFC refrigerant.   • Work in adverse working conditions such as confined spaces (e.g. tunnels, man holes, vaults), dirty areas, low lighting, and extreme temperatures.   • Stoop, bend, and reach.   • Walk throughout campus. • Lift up to 50 pounds. • Drive University vehicles. • May be exposed to hazardous and dangerous materials, tools, and equipment which will require safety precautions and/or specific process to be followed, and may include the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) (e.g. safety glasses, hearing protection, negative pressure and positive pressure respirator).  Use of PPE may require prior medical clearance.

Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment.  Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.

Ability to obtain Chlorofluorocarbon Certification within five months of employment date.

Respirator Fit Test only. Candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment respiratory clearance questionnaire and respirator fit test as a condition of employment.
