A Day in the Life Medtronic's HR Shared Services Team helps deliver HR support and services at scale by executing standardized HR processes, partnering with HR Business Partners and Centers of Excellence, and focusing on continuous improvement, innovation, and automation to support a smooth employee experience.

Located at Medtronic's headquarters in Minneapolis, MN, this role is onsite four days per week.                     The HR Shared Services Specialist provides centralized HR support across employee benefits, leave of absence, disability, and related HR programs. The Specialist serves as an escalated point of contact for employee and manager inquiries, ensuring timely, accurate, and professional service while maintaining confidentiality and adherence to policy and service level expectations.

The role partners closely with internal HR teams, payroll, and external vendors to resolve issues, support annual benefits activities, and maintain data accuracy across HR systems. In addition, the role contributes to process improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to streamline workflows, enhance the employee experience, and improve operational efficiency through better systems, documentation, and automation.

The Specialist may also support reporting, audits, testing, and HR system updates or configuration as needed.

Primary Responsibilities: • Administer U.S. health and welfare benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, FSA, HSA, and related offerings

• Support employee enrollments, qualifying life event changes, terminations, and other benefits transactions

• Assist with annual open enrollment activities, including employee communications, system updates, and issue resolution

• Administer disability and leave programs, including short-term disability, long-term disability, FMLA, and other time-off policies

• Serve as an escalated resource for employee and manager inquiries related to benefits, leave, disability, and time-off programs

• Partner with internal stakeholders and external vendors to research and resolve complex cases

• Audit transactions and data to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely processing

• Generate reports and support compliance reviews, process documentation, and HR projects

• Identify and help implement process improvements, system enhancements, and service delivery efficiencies

• Support testing, issue tracking, and updates related to HR systems and workflows

Required Qualifications: • High school diploma (or equivalent) and 2+ years of experience in employee benefits, leave, disability or HR service delivery processes , OR an advanced degree with 0 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications • Hands-on experience administering U.S. benefits and leave programs, including ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, and ACA-related processes

• Experience supporting employee benefits administration in a shared services or HR operations environment

• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

• Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills

• Experience working independently while partnering effectively across HR teams, payroll, and vendors

• Experience with HRIS and benefits administration systems such as Workday

• Experience working with benefits carriers, third-party administrators, or other external vendors

• Strong Excel skills, including reporting, reconciliation, and data analysis

• Exposure to process improvement, testing, or system configuration activities

• Experience creating SOPs, knowledge articles, or process documentation

• Familiarity with multi-state benefits or leave administration

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
