The Hartford is seeking a Head of Energy to lead the vision, strategy, execution, and financial performance of its national Energy portfolio. This executive will serve as the senior business leader and underwriting authority for Energy, with accountability for profitable growth, underwriting excellence, portfolio performance, market expansion, operational effectiveness, and long-term strategy. Energy is a strategic growth opportunity for The Hartford. This leader will build on a strong foundation while positioning the business to capture opportunities across traditional and renewable energy sectors. The ideal candidate brings deep technical underwriting expertise, executive-level business leadership, and a strong market presence with brokers, insureds, distribution partners, and senior internal stakeholders. As the external face of The Hartford's Energy franchise, this leader will help shape the business, strengthen market relevance, and develop the next generation of Energy underwriting talent. This is an opportunity for a business-minded underwriting executive who wants to lead a growth-oriented portfolio while staying closely connected to customers, market dynamics, and disciplined risk selection.

What You Will Do 1. Lead Portfolio Strategy and Financial Performance • Own Energy portfolio performance in alignment with enterprise growth and profitability objectives.
• Develop operating plans, portfolio strategies, and profit improvement initiatives.
• Drive profitable premium growth, retention, rate adequacy, margin expansion, and disciplined capacity deployment.
• Use portfolio insights, pricing benchmarks, segmentation, industry mix, geographic concentration, and trend analysis to guide decisions.
• Develop action plans that address performance variances, loss trends, market shifts, and customer needs.
2. Underwriting Strategy and Technical Leadership • Serve as the senior underwriting authority for the Energy portfolio.
• Set underwriting strategy across Energy segments, including appetite, pricing philosophy, authority structure, governance, referral practices, coverage positioning, and risk selection.
• Promote underwriting consistency, documentation quality, and disciplined execution.
• Partner with Product and Enterprise Underwriting Leadership to evolve guidelines, authorities, and portfolio management practices.
• Build a risk-aware underwriting culture focused on informed decisions and sustainable profitability.
3. Growth, Distribution and Market Leadership • Represent The Hartford's Energy business externally with brokers, agents, customers, risk managers, and industry leaders.
• Build executive-level relationships that strengthen distribution partnerships and customer engagement.
• Develop market strategies that improve submission flow, quote volume, strategic account execution, hit ratios, retention, and profitable growth.
• Represent The Hartford at industry conferences, customer stewardship meetings, recruiting events, and market forums.
• Identify emerging opportunities and advise enterprise leadership on market trends and competitive developments.
4. Product, Innovation and Enterprise Alignment • Partner across Product, Actuarial, Claims, Risk Engineering, Technology, Operations, and Analytics to enhance Energy capabilities.
• Influence product strategy, coverage design, pricing approaches, underwriting tools, and differentiated service offerings.
• Evaluate opportunities in renewable energy, power generation, battery storage, infrastructure development, environmental exposures, and evolving energy technologies.
• Identify market gaps, customer needs, and competitive threats.
• Advance a One Hartford approach to energy-related opportunities across business units and specialty capabilities.
5. Operational Excellence and Portfolio Modernization • Improve underwriting productivity, speed to market, and operating effectiveness.
• Leverage automation, advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, workflow redesign, and technology investments to strengthen results.
• Create scalable routines that support future growth and provide strong portfolio visibility.
• Partner with Operations, Technology, Data & Analytics, and Finance to drive continuous improvement and operational leverage.
6. Talent Leadership and Organization Development • Recruit, develop, retain, and engage high-performing Energy underwriting talent.
• Build succession plans and leadership pipelines for future underwriting and business leaders.
• Strengthen technical capability through coaching, training, referral governance, and quality management routines.
