Position Summary Participates with a clinical geneticist in the delivery of genetic services.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
• Elicits family histories for new patient visits, ensuring chart preparation and review is complete prior to patient’s office encounter, obtain intern histories for return patient visits. • Counsels patients and families, review with the patients, families and physician the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment planned, transmits pertinent information about genetic risks and mechanism. This includes patients that have complex patient histories with multiple family disorders. Implements the treatment plan and makes appropriate referrals to medical, nursing, social work, and psychological services. Process appropriate testing and assist families with questions regarding insurance. • Provides follow-up support to patients and their families, serving as a liaison between the patient and the physician to communicate results of laboratory studies, summarizes findings for patients and referring physicians, assist the family in assimilating the genetic information and adjusting to its implications, and to coordinate genetic testing, procedures, referral and testing of other family members. • Performs clinical supervision of new hires during onboarding. Participates in onboarding, training, mentorship of new Genetic Counselors and Genetic Counselor Assistants. • May serve as a lecturer for Genetic Counseling students and medical providers. • Mentors genetic counselor students. Assists with coordination of GC student clinical rotations. • Participates in the development and implementation of ongoing clinical investigations in genetics. May lead project management (implementation and coordination, including IRB protocol management) within the defined scope of the supervising faculty member’s research program with contributions to publication authorship. • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, Basic Life Support - American Red Cross, Certified Genetic Counselor - American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC), Certified Genetic Counselor - American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMG) Work Experience: Genetic Counselor (3 Years) Skills: Not Applicable Driver's License: A driver's license is not required for this position.
More About This Job Required Qualifications: • Master’s degree from an accredited genetic counseling program. • Board certification in genetic counseling by either the American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG), or the America Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC). • Basic Life Support certification (Online Basic Life Support certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the Basic Life Support requirements).
Preferred Qualifications: • Five years of experience as a genetic counselor.

Salary Range $77,700.00 - $120,400.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
