About this role
Genetic Counselor I/II – Outpatient
Coordinate, administer, and deliver genetic counseling to patients and families at risk for genetic disorders, supporting our outpatient Clinical Genetics team. This is a direct patient care role in both in-person and telemedicine clinics. In-person clinics may be at the main campus or other Seattle Children’s sites of care (e.g., South, North, Bellevue). Assess recurrence risks and recommend medical or genetic testing based on an analysis of risks, benefits, and cost. Review implications with patients and families and provide crisis intervention regarding unexpected genetic conditions. Educate physicians and health professionals and ensure appropriate patient referral and care. Assist in program development within our collaborative Clinical Genetics team and educate internal and external staff on genetic counseling, including the orientation and mentoring of genetic counseling students, residents, and new staff. Candidates should be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in pediatric genetics and rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Assess recurrence risks and recommend medical or genetic testing based on analysis of the risk, benefit, and cost. Review implications with the patient and provide crisis intervention regarding unexpected genetic conditions. Provide orientation, training, and supervision to volunteers, interns, students, and other learners as appropriate. Educate physicians and health professionals to ensure appropriate patient referral and care. Actively participate in and lead department improvement activities including research and other initiatives related to improving patient care and the family experience. Identification of and involvement in a specialty clinic (ex., Arthrogryposis, EpiGenetics) with a need for genetic counseling services. Ensure familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Genetic Counselor I Required Education and Experience Master of Science in Genetic Counseling.
Required Credentials Board certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics, OR must have Active Candidate Status for the ABGC Board Examination and must successfully obtain ABGC Certification within two (2) ABGC exam cycles or within three (3) years after the start of employment. Washington State Licensure as a Genetic Counselor OR Provisional Washington State Licensure as a Genetic Counselor
Preferred Experience in pediatric genetics or equivalent work.
Genetic Counselor II Required Education and Experience Master of Science in Genetic Counseling. At least one (1) year of experience performing genetic counseling.

Compensation Range $80,715.00 - $133,180.00 per year Salary Information This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
