About this role
WHY PATIENTS NEED YOU GCS is a newly unified organization bringing together legacy Commercial Strategy & Innovation (CSI), Global Marketing, and Global Access Strategy & Pricing (GASP) to establish a single commercial voice to R&D and strategic leadership across the portfolio lifecycle. As GCS moves through its AI transformation, the organization is building a Connected Intelligence System (CIS): an AI-native operating system in which GCS owns the meaning, the workflows, the standards and the data requirements, and AIA & Commercial Analytics owns the technical build and data layers respectively.
WHAT YOU WILL ACHIEVE The GCS Transformation Management Office (TMO) Lead is a Director-level role within Global Commercial Strategy, reporting to the GCS Transformation Lead. This is the transformation-phase profile for the role, covering the period from H2 2026 through YE 2027. It is the delivery and operations backbone of the transformation: it replaces the Deloitte delivery PMO as that engagement ends in December 2026, stands up and runs the internal TMO, runs live system operations as capabilities go live, and agentifies the transformation and operations capability itself so that the team delivering the change is the first team in GCS to run itself in an AI-native way. It builds and runs the TMO and live operations through CIS agents and tooling rather than manually, role-modelling the consumer-to-builder shift and demonstrating what good looks like for the rest of the organization. This role continues in steady state at which point its focus shifts to running the operating system & leading on ongoing adoption, comms. and culture change; that steady-state profile is described separately. Clear boundaries apply. This is the GCS-side delivery and operations office. It directs and coordinates the overall transformation program, people, process and tech roadmap, rather than directing the technical build team, which is led from within AIA. Across the transformation it holds the integrated delivery view over six Transformation Workstreams. It proposes plans, forecasts and operational decisions to the Transformation Lead, who holds the final call on scope, sequence and release. This is a role for an AI-native leader. The role holder is expected to demonstrably role-model the cultural shift at the heart of the transformation: thinking and designing at the workflow and system level at all times, and actively incubating agentic tools, workflows and prototypes rather than remaining solely as a consumer of generative AI. The transformation team should be the first team to run itself in an AI-native way, and this role is accountable for delivering this capability.
HOW YOU WILL ACHIEVE IT Replaces the external consultant-led PMO and Stands Up the Internal TMO • Takes over the program delivery engine from the encumbant consultancy as their engagement ends late 2026, ensuring a clean, low-risk transition of delivery management into GCS.
• Stands up and runs the internal GCS Transformation Management Office (TMO): the delivery backbone for the transformation across the three horizons (Stand-Up, Transform, Steady State).
• Establishes the delivery operating model, tooling and standards the TMO runs on, designed to endure into steady-state operations.
• Coordinates closely with, but is separate from, the AIA technical build PMO. This role runs GCS-side delivery; it does not run the AIA build.
Agentifies the Transformation and Operations Capability Itself • Builds the transformation and operations team's own AI-native ways of working, using CIS agents and tooling to run the TMO and operations rather than running them manually.
• Role-models the consumer-to-builder shift inside the programme team, so the team transforming GCS is itself AI-native and demonstrates what good looks like.
• Stands up and maintains the programme's operating tooling, including the Decisions and Assumptions Log, delivery dashboards and status reporting, as agentic assets wherever possible.
Transformation Program Management • Owns the delivery cadence: sprint and workstream rhythm, milestones, stage gates and decision forums across the three horizons and for the 6 transformation workstreams (AI Build, Adoption & Comms, Workflow Design, PMO Agentification, Data mesh specification & build,System Performance & KPIs.
• Owns integrated planning and RAID across GCS workstreams and the interfaces to AIA build and Digital.
• Maintains the roadmap and tracks milestone delivery, holding workstreams to their commitments.
• Drives cross-workstream dependencies, and finds and manages critical-path risks, surfacing clashes early to the Transformation Lead for decision.
• Stands up and runs a system to enable ROI measurement: spend versus efficiency, cost savings and time released, providing the evidence base to the Transformation Lead.
Runs Live System Operations as Capabilities Go Live • Stands up and runs the operational backbone for CIS capabilities as they go live during the transformation: release operations, monitoring, support routing and incident triage coordination with AIA.
• Ensures live workflows and agents are operated reliably and safely, with clear run-books and escalation, distinct from the build, which sits with AIA, and from adoption, which sits with the System Adoption Lead.
• Feeds operational signals and issues back into the delivery backlog and to the Domain Excellence Leads for improvement.
Stands Up the Foundations for Steady-State Operations • Designs and stands up the operating cadence, KPIs and tooling that will become steady-state operations, including the foundations of the Change Delivery System (CDS).
• Ensures a clean path from transformation-phase delivery to steady-state operations, so the steady state operating model endures.
• This role does not own colleague adoption, change, communications or capability, which sit with the System Adoption Lead, nor domain excellence or the data mesh, which sit
