Are you a finance leader who enjoys improving financial operations, leading high-performing teams, and ensuring fiscal integrity?

Oakland County is seeking 3 experienced and strategic Fiscal Supervisor, Sr. to lead critical financial operations within the Fiscal Services Division. In this role, you'll oversee one of three specialized functions including accounts payable, reporting, or parks division accounting support while providing leadership to professional teams responsible for maintaining the County's financial health and regulatory compliance.

What you'll do:

Lead and oversee specialized fiscal operations, including accounting, budgeting, payroll, and/or grant administration Supervise, mentor, and provide technical guidance to interdisciplinary finance teams Ensure compliance with governmental accounting standards, legislative requirements, and financial best practices Oversee fiscal period closings, payroll processing, and the accurate preparation of financial reports and statements Manage financial systems, budgeting software, and system administration activities, including upgrades and enhancements Develop and implement process improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness across fiscal operations Serve as a technical resource for financial reporting, budget forecasting, and complex accounting issues Collaborate with Information Technology and software vendors to resolve system issues and support financial applications Prepare and present financial information to County leadership, the Board of Commissioners, and external agencies Partner with federal, state, and local government representatives to implement new financial programs, procedures, and regulatory requirements

Minimum Qualifications EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Public Administration or related field of study.  When assigned to Reimbursement, a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice is qualifying.

• Have had five (5) years of full-time work experience in financial analysis, business administration, general accounting, cost accounting, systems analysis, economic analysis, payroll, human resource administration or related area, including two (2) years in a supervisory position.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED • Working through one or more subordinate supervisors and/or with Fiscal Services Division staff this position plans, directs, makes staffing decisions, and exercises control over primary areas of the Fiscal Services Division. • Exercises control over professional, para-professional, and clerical employees. • Also, develops, leads, and directs resolution to functional and technical issues with various department specific software applications and related interfaces with all staff that utilize department specific applications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Ensures that fiscal services practices are in accordance with accepted techniques and legislative requirements. • Assigned system administration duties for the budgeting and/or accounting software systems and processes or oversees the responsibility of County payroll. • Oversees the fiscal period closing schedule and processes or payroll schedule and processes. • Ensures the accurate production of financial reports, such as audited financial statements, Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports, and the monthly budget to actual expenditure reports. • Serves as the technical resource to develop, produce, and maintain the necessary reports for the County’s budgetary and financial reporting requirements. • Oversees the technical aspects for the budget and salary forecasting system. Develops and recommends procedures for assigned area to increase efficiency of accounting, budget, payroll, and/or grant programs.
