Job Duties: The University of Wisconsin - Green Bay, Sheboygan Campus is currently seeking applications for a 2nd shift Custodian position. This position will have primary work hours from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. but will require occasional nights and weekends for seasonal work or specialty events. The Custodian position maintains the overall appearance and cleanliness of the designated work area. Work performed in this position includes manual cleaning and maintenance of UW-Green Bay, Sheboygan Campus buildings. General areas of responsibility include: cleaning offices, restrooms, and other building areas; maintaining all floor surfaces including mopping, buffing, vacuuming, shampooing, and refinishing; cleaning windows (inside and outside); cleaning furniture; assisting with furniture, piano and equipment moves as required; stocking restrooms and custodial work areas with necessary supplies and products; waste and recycling removal; snow removal and salting of building entrances.
Key Job Responsibilities: • Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
• Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities
• Maintains the campus grounds including lawn care and snow removal using a variety of tools and equipment
• Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs
• Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed
• Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables
Department: Facilities Management - Operations
Compensation: Hourly wage of $17.00.
This position will earn an additional $0.80 per hour for all weekend hours worked, as well as for all hours worked between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
This position is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Required Qualifications: • High School Diploma or equivalent at time of application • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a valid drivers license upon appointment • Basic Computer skills including the ability to use e-mail and internet
Preferred Qualifications: • Bilingual, preferably in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, or Oneida • Knowledge of the proper methods, materials, and equipment for a wide range of general custodian work • Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as a vacuum cleaner or a floor scrubber • Knowledge of basic safety precautions including the safe and proper use of toxic chemicals, and knowledge of heaving lifting methods to ensure safety • Must have the ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness • Ability to tolerate temperature extremes when performing snow removal activities
Physical Qualifications : • Physical abilities to lift 50 lbs. from the floor to waist occasionally • Physical abilities to lift 30 lbs. from the floor to overhead occasionally • Physical abilities to stand and walk continuously throughout an eight hour shift • Ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, move furniture, perform repetitive motions, overhead work, frequent stair and ladder climbing
Conditions of Appointment: This position is a full-time University Staff appointment. A criminal conviction investigation and pre-work screen examination will be conducted on the finalist(s). A six-month probationary period is required for this position. In compliance with the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, the University does not discriminate on the basis of arrest or conviction record.
