Job Duties: The University of Wisconsin–Green Bay invites dependable, team‑focused individuals to join our facilities team as a 1st Shift Custodian, helping create a clean, safe, and welcoming campus that supports student success and community engagement. In this essential role, you will maintain the appearance and functionality of campus spaces by cleaning offices, classrooms, and restrooms; caring for floors and furnishings; washing windows and surfaces; and supporting waste, recycling, and supply management. You will also assist with furniture and equipment moves, contribute to seasonal snow and ice removal, and perform routine maintenance tasks—all while working under the guidance of the Custodial Services Supervisor and traveling between campus locations as needed.

Key Job Responsibilities: • Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs
• Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
• Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables
• Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities
• Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed
Department: Facilities Management - Custodial Operations
Compensation: Hourly wage of $17.00.
This position will earn an additional $0.80 per hour for all weekend hours worked, as well as for all hours worked between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
This position is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Required Qualifications: • High School Diploma or equivalent at time of application • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a valid drivers license upon appointment • Basic Computer skills including the ability to use e-mail and internet
Preferred Qualifications: • Bilingual, preferably in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, or Oneida • Knowledge of the proper methods, materials, and equipment for a wide range of general custodian work • Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as a vacuum cleaner or a floor scrubber • Knowledge of basic safety precautions including the safe and proper use of toxic chemicals, and knowledge of heaving lifting methods to ensure safety • Must have the ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness • Ability to tolerate temperature extremes when performing snow removal activities
Physical Qualifications : • Physical abilities to lift 50 lbs. from the floor to waist occasionally • Physical abilities to lift 30 lbs. from the floor to overhead occasionally • Physical abilities to stand and walk continuously throughout an eight hour shift • Ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, move furniture, perform repetitive motions, overhead work, frequent stair and ladder climbing
Conditions of Appointment: Position is a full-time University Staff appointment. The work hours for this position will be 6:00 a.m. – 2: 30 p.m., Monday through Friday on the Green Bay campus.
A criminal conviction investigation and pre-work screen examination will be conducted on the finalist(s). A six-month probationary period is required for this position.
