The Coordinator of Student Organizations in Student Life plays a pivotal role in supporting the mission to develop student leaders and foster involvement. This position will support the development, success, and engagement of student organizations through facilitating their requests for space, coaching leaders on event management, working collaboratively with student and full time staff, and coordinating relevant programs. This position plays a vital role in facilitating meaningful student experiences while ensuring compliance with university policies and supporting the overall mission of the unit.
Responsibilities:
Student Organization Support • Actively participate and support the Student Organizations team by providing coaching and assistance to student organizations in areas such as organization management, program planning, leadership development, risk management, and understanding university policies and procedures.
Space Reservations & Event Administration • Oversee and manage indoor space reservations for student organizations and departments, serving as the technology liaison for the reservation system. Process administrative requests while ensuring compliance with Institutional Rules, risk management guidelines, and other relevant policies for indoor and outdoor events.
Event Consultation • Conduct event consultations for both indoor and outdoor student organization events, collaborating with campus partners on event logistics, reservations, and necessary referrals.
Program Planning & Assessment • Lead and collaborate in the planning and implementation of area programs within Student Organizations which may include large scale event coordination, facilitation of workshops and skills training associated with student event planning and execution. Build assessment and evaluation tools to measure and track event and program impact.
Student Staff Supervision • Participate in the hiring, training, and support or graduate and/or undergraduate student staff as part of the Student Organizations events team, in collaboration with a second Coordinator and Assistant Director.
Special Projects & Committees • Assist in special assignments and committees on behalf of Student Organizations, Student Life, Texas Student Experience, or other campus partners as requested. Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualification: Bachelor’s degree and experience developing, administering, and implementing programs for college students. Experience advising student groups, in student personnel or student services. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, administration, and external stakeholders. Professional demeanor. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills including presentations, written correspondence, and reports. Attention to detail. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with a graduate degree in student affairs administration or related field. At least two years of professional experience working with student groups to provide advising, program planning, interpretation of institutional policies, risk management and leadership development opportunities. Experience with event planning and risk management concepts related to student organizations. Strong attention to detail and successfully managing concurrent tasks. Independent decision making and problem-solving ability. Knowledge of student development theory and experience with student affairs assessment or program evaluation. Demonstrated strategic and innovative approaches to problem solving. Experience supervising professional and para-professional staff. Experience building partnerships and collaborating across departments in a post-secondary institution.
Salary: $58,750 (non-negotiable)
Working Conditions • Work in a busy, high student traffic environment with frequent interruptions. • Must be able to maintain punctual and regular attendance. • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. • Working around and with standard office equipment. • The ability to flex schedule or accrue compensatory time to accommodate occasional evening or weekend work will be required.
