The Opportunity : The Building Automation Systems (BAS) Analyst III position is critical to ensuring the effective operation and value realization of the Willow digital twin and its Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD) platform by serving as the first line of technical review for insights and analytics. This role provides essential validation of alerts, performs root cause analysis to distinguish actionable issues from false positives, and translates complex system findings into clear, prioritized recommendations for operations and maintenance teams. By coordinating directly with supervisors and managers to determine appropriate dispatch actions, the BAS Analyst III ensures that campus resources are deployed efficiently, reduces unnecessary work orders, and improves response time to legitimate system faults. This function is foundational to maintaining data trust, optimizing asset performance, and sustaining reliable, efficient campus building operations.
Responsibilities:
FDD Review & Diagnostic Quality • Responsible for the daily review of FDD findings and maintaining a prioritized backlog of actionable issues.
• Validate diagnostics using BAS trends and context to reduce false positives and avoid unnecessary dispatch.
• Improve diagnostic quality by continuously refining what qualifies as actionable and what is informational only.
• Improve diagnostic quality by managing recurring false positives, duplicate detections, and chronic offenders that undermine trust in FDD.
• Coordinate corrections to point mapping, data quality, or configuration inputs that materially improve diagnostic reliability.
Root Cause Analysis & Work Order Coordination • Perform first-response engineering review to determine whether issues are likely caused by controls logic, sensors/point mapping, mechanical performance, or operational scheduling.
• Confirm suspected root cause by cross-checking BAS trends, equipment state, and sequence intent before escalation.
• Provide a concise recommended corrective path to speed assignment and resolution.
• Translate validated FDD findings into clear, actionable work requests for controls programming and facilities operations teams.
• Define expected outcomes and acceptance criteria so completion can be confirmed in the data and sustained over time.
• Ensure tickets include the appropriate technical details needed to execute correctly the first time and reduce rework.
Verification, Stakeholder Coordination & Continuous Improvement • Verify that completed work resolves the underlying fault condition and does not reoccur after normal operating cycles.
• Track repeat issues and elevate systemic problems that indicate standards, sequence, or configuration gaps rather than one-off failures.
• Work closely with BAS staff, facilities operations, and engineering stakeholders to resolve issues that span controls logic, field devices, and operating practices.
• Coordinate with IT as needed when connectivity or data continuity limits FDD effectiveness.
• Process feedback and workorder notes to drive improvements to future diagnostics and recommendations.
Reporting, Documentation & Standards • Provide concise summaries of FDD activity and outcomes, including what was found, what was corrected, what remains in queue, and avoided costs.
• Use reporting to align priorities, set expectations for response, and support continued scaling of the FDD program.
• Maintain documentation for triage practices, ticket templates, prioritization rules, and verification steps to ensure repeatable execution and knowledge transfer.
• Support alignment with BAS standards and requirements that affect data quality, training expectations, and consistent implementation practices.
Minimum Qualifications : High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6) .
Preferred Qualifications: • 7+ years of progressive experience designing, programming, commissioning, and supporting Willow Building Automation Systems, including Tracer SC+/Enterprise and UC controllers, in large or complex facilities.
• Strong knowledge of DDC controls, HVAC sequences of operation, airflow, hydronics, and system integration with experience in retro‑commissioning and performance optimization.
• Demonstrated experience using system analytics, trend data, and performance metrics to improve operational efficiency, energy performance, and occupant comfort.
• Proficiency with BAS networking concepts, databases, HMI/graphics development, and integration with IT infrastructure; experience working alongside cybersecurity teams is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Facilities Management, or a related technical field.
• Experience in higher education, healthcare, or large institutional campuses with complex, mission‑critical building systems and varied stakeholder environments.
• Industry‑recognized certifications such as Certified Controls Systems Technician (CCST – Level II or III), Willow certifications, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), LEED AP, or similar credentials related to controls, energy, or building systems.
