Building Operations , a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive facilities monitoring, operation, and optimization services in support of the University’s operations.

Our teams provide a comprehensive array of qualified services, backed by our licensed and certified technicians, to this end, we offer opportunities for continuing education, as well as various stipends for additional trade licenses. Our team of trained trade experts are well-matched for the university’s operational and maintenance needs, whether the facility is a brand new laboratory or our iconic Tower.

This is a 40 hour work week schedule; hours to be discussed with supervisor.

Purpose To provide journey level technical analysis work for Building Automation Systems.  Responsible for providing journey level technical analysis work in monitoring the installation, modification, and repair for Building Automation Systems. 

Responsibilities • Monitors the functionality of multi-vendor networked BAS systems for proper operation and reporting. Builds and edits graphics pages and links to field points. Uses Microsoft Office applications for reporting, e-mail, analysis, presentation, and graphing.

• Reviews control algorithms and programs for functionality and suitability based on engineering sequences and operating requirements. Implements program changes and verifies proper operation. Identifies flaws or errors in building automation programs and implements solutions. 

• Evaluates programming methods and implements changes to reduce energy consumption.  Work with the Energy Management Optimization (EMO) engineers to implement optimized sequences.

• Reviews HVAC designs, inspects installations, assists in commissioning and retro - commissioning on new and existing BAS systems. Provides consultation and analysis to support staff and project engineering staff. Reads and interprets mechanical and related drawings and diagrams. Reviews new building control systems for conformance to university standards.

• Coordinate with campus intranet LAN systems departments to maintain and troubleshoot multi-vendor networked BAS system, connections, and communications.

• Maintains and troubleshoots computer workstations, displays, UPS's, servers, equipment racks, KVMs and coordinates with multiple vendors and departments for updates, repairs, replacements and warranty service.

• Retrieves historical data from BAS systems and data loggers. Generates reports, charts, and spreadsheets for analysis and review with support staff and project engineering staff.

• Coordinates with Building Operators, HVAC shop, vendors, and other facilities personnel as necessary. Responds to after-hours trouble calls for resolution via either on-site or remotely to ensure emergencies are correctly and competently addressed. (10%)
