The Role Blue Owl Insurance Solutions (BOIS) is Blue Owl's insurance-focused asset management business, partnering with insurance companies to deliver customized investment solutions across private credit, asset-based finance, real estate, and other alternative asset classes. BOIS leverages Blue Owl's global platform, origination capabilities, and investment expertise to help insurers achieve their return, capital, and liability management objectives. As of June 30, 2026, BOIS serves nearly 100 insurance clients and manages more than $30 billion of insurance-related assets. Blue Owl is seeking a Chief Operating Officer to build and lead the operating platform of BOIS. Reporting to the CEO of Insurance Solutions, the COO will initially own three priorities: the data infrastructure and reporting capability that underpins the business, the investment process and organizational structure supporting the platform and its separately managed accounts, and the day-to-day coordination between BOIS and Blue Owl's corporate functions across Accounting and Finance, Human Capital, and Technology. The COO will also support business development through the production of client-facing presentation materials and will own the cadence and content of management updates from BOIS to Blue Owl's senior leadership. This individual will translate the strategic agenda into executable workstreams, scalable processes, and a clear operating model that enables a rapidly growing, increasingly complex insurance business.
Responsibilities Data Infrastructure and Reporting • Own the data architecture supporting BOIS, establishing a single source of truth for client, mandate, portfolio, and performance data across the platform.
• Define and execute the data and technology roadmap for the business, including portfolio and mandate management systems and insurance-specific analytics tooling.
• Build and maintain the reporting capability serving insurance clients, including performance, holdings, look-through, and guideline compliance reporting delivered on client-specific cycles and formats.
• Oversee the data and reporting requirements unique to insurers, including statutory and regulatory reporting support, capital and risk-charge analytics, and rating agency information requests.
• Establish internal management reporting and KPIs – AUM and fee-earning AUM, mandate activity, flows, and revenue – delivering insight and recommendations rather than data alone.
• Drive automation and control across reporting processes, reducing manual production and strengthening data quality, lineage, and reconciliation.
Investment Process and Organization • Own the operating design of the investment process across BOIS, including pipeline management, allocation, approval workflows, and investment committee cadence, materials, and documentation.
• Own the operating model for separately managed accounts, including mandate design, implementation, and the investment workflows supporting client-specific portfolios.
• Establish the framework for SMA investment guideline monitoring, exception management, and client-specific constraints, in partnership with Compliance and Portfolio Management.
• Coordinate the interface between BOIS and Blue Owl's investment platforms – Credit, including asset-based finance, GP Strategic Capital, and Real Assets – to ensure insurance mandates are sourced, allocated, and implemented efficiently.
• Define the organizational structure of the business: roles, responsibilities, decision rights, and escalation paths across origination, structuring, portfolio management, and client service.
• Own the operating rhythm of the business, including leadership meetings and quarterly business reviews – setting agendas, driving decisions, and tracking follow-through.
• Client Onboarding and Servicing
• Serve as a key partner to the sales and client coverage teams in delivering a seamless onboarding experience, driving the operational workstreams from mandate award through account set-up, funding, and first reporting cycle.
• Build a repeatable onboarding framework covering documentation, KYC and AML, account and custody set-up, systems and data configuration, guideline coding, and reporting build-out.
• Coordinate onboarding workstreams across Legal, Operations, Technology, Portfolio Management, and external parties including custodians, administrators, and consultants.
• Establish onboarding timelines and service standards, tracking progress and resolving bottlenecks so accounts are funded and invested on schedule.
• Partner with the sales and client coverage teams to drive the ongoing client service model, including recurring reporting cycles, ad hoc client requests, and periodic mandate reviews.
Business Development Support • Partner with the sales and client coverage teams to drive the production of client and prospect presentation materials, ensuring a consistent, high-quality narrative for the BOIS platform.
• Maintain the underlying content library used in client-facing materials, including track record, performance, and platform data, in partnership with Marketing and Portfolio Management.
• Support the sales
