Position Title: Associate Professor/Professor and Chair, Physical Therapy

Time Type: Full time

Position Summary and Qualifications: The Saint Joseph's University Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is a part of the School of Health Professions.

This is a full-time, tenure-track, 12-month position in the School of Health Professions and will carry an appointment at the rank of Associate or full Professor, to be determined following the conclusion of the search. The applicant should have expertise in the physical therapy management of people with neurological conditions.

This position also holds a secondary appointment (with reduced teaching expectations) as Department Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy and reports to the Dean of the School of Health Professions. The applicant should have experience in higher education leadership roles.

The individual will have teaching responsibilities within the physical therapy program and will provide effective leadership to the program faculty, staff, and students. The Chair will have responsibilities related to coordination and management of student advising, faculty and staff annual reviews, curriculum development and assessment, fiscal responsibility for the department, and will work collaboratively with the Dean of the School of Health Professions to meet University, School, and Department strategic goals. They are also expected to contribute to a vibrant and collaborative department and maintain an active scholarly agenda.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Contribute to the neurologic-related curriculum in the department and other courses as needed

• Evaluate student performance and provide feedback consistent with course requirements and best practices

• Prepare and deliver course materials, lab activities, and assessments

• Coordinate course needs with the chair, faculty, and staff

• Serve as an academic advisor

• Attend faculty meetings and contribute actively to the work of the department and the School of Health Professions

• Serve the department, School of Health Professions, the University, and the Profession.

• Actively engage in professional development activities related to the primary areas of teaching and in educational best practices

• Leads program curricula planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision in collaboration with the faculty.

• Maintain an active research agenda

• Advocate for the Department’s needs with the Dean and other University leadership

• Represents the program on various DPT and University committees and serves as a liaison across the university, providing leadership and strategy for DPT's engagement in campus-wide initiatives, and performs other related duties as assigned by the Chair

Minimum Qualifications: Required • Academic doctoral degree as defined by the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education or CAPTE (e.g. PhD, EdD, JD). A DPT degree alone does not meet this requirement.

• Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience working with patients who have a neurologic diagnosis or condition

• Minimum of six years of full-time higher education experience with a minimum of three years of full-time experience as a core faculty member in a CAPTE-accredited entry-level physical therapist education program commensurate with a faculty appointment at the rank of associate or full professor.

• Licensed physical therapist with an active unrestricted license in good standing in Pennsylvania

• Has experience/professional development/education in administration, management, and leadership. Experience and professional development derived from the clinic is acceptable.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Collaborative team approach

• Be an effective problem solver

• Commitment to inclusive excellence

• Professional development and/or education in all of the following: educational theory and methodology, instructional design, student evaluation, and outcome assessment.

• Has experience in fiscal management. Experience derived from the clinic is acceptable.

• Has experience or formal training in program evaluation, assessment, and curriculum development.

• Is familiar with CAPTE accreditation requirements and has experience with other accreditation and/or regulatory agencies. Experience derived from the clinic is acceptable.

• Has prior engagement at the academy/academic institutional level (i.e., faculty senate).

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours: • Participation in university functions, such as open house, accepted student day - generally scheduled on weekends and/or evenings

Pay Transparency: The estimated pay range for this position is $115,000-$127,000 per year. The offered rate of pay will be commensurate with work experience and educational background. Additional compensation is available while holding department chair secondary appointment.
