Assistant Director of Leadership and Faculty Development
This position serves the Faculty Center Director and the AAVP–Faculty Development Office by conducting faculty development research, supporting the Faith & Learning Initiative, and providing operational leadership for assigned faculty development programs and other Faculty Center and university initiatives.
The Assistant Director develops, implements, evaluates, and refines faculty development programs and initiatives serving academic leaders, early-career tenure-track faculty, and late-career faculty, while supporting other assigned university initiatives
What you will be doing in this position
Faculty Development Programs and Initiatives • Develop, administer, evaluate, and refine assigned faculty development programs and initiatives for: • academic leaders and late-career faculty, under the strategic direction of the Faculty Center Director; and
• early-career tenure-track faculty and Faith & Learning initiatives
• Oversee the scheduling, logistical planning, and implementation of assigned workshops, seminars, Faculty Retirement Banquet (≈100 guests), and other program events.
• Support the Faith and Learning Initiative of the Faculty Center, including: • conducting research and evaluation on faith and learning,
• evaluating Faith & Learning initiatives and
• designing, developing, and hosting faculty discussion groups, presentations, and workshops.
• Under the direction of the Office of Belonging and in association with the Associate Director of the Faculty Center, implement programs that help achieve university goals pertaining to belonging.
Research and Scholarly Support • Conduct research projects and respond to research and data requests from the AAVP–Faculty Development Office, the University Faculty Development Council (UFDC), and the Faculty Center Director, as assigned.
• Review academic literature, conduct research, and gather data to inform the development of new programs and initiatives and the evaluation and refinement of existing Faculty Center programs.
Personnel Leadership and Resource Management • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and assign work to staff, establishing clear expectations and ensuring compliance with applicable university policies and Faculty Center procedures.
• Provide mentoring, coaching, feedback, and development opportunities that support employee growth and leadership development.
• Support staff in providing student employees with meaningful work experiences, mentoring, and experiential learning opportunities that foster professional, personal, and faith-centered growth consistent with the Mission and Aims of Brigham Young University.
• Direct undergraduate and graduate research assistants assigned to Faith & Learning initiatives and other assigned research projects.
Faculty Center Administration • Collaborate with Faculty Center leadership and colleagues to develop, implement, evaluate, and support Faculty Center priorities, strategies, services, and initiatives.
• Contribute to annual Faculty Center planning and reporting activities by identifying future priorities, resource needs, and recommendations related to assigned areas of responsibility.
Resource Management • Manage approximately $70,000 in program funding.
• Update, structure, and maintain the Department Chair and Faith & Learning websites.
• Direct the development of the Faith & Learning website, videos, and other media.
Database Governance, Program Assessment, and Reporting • Define and maintain database requirements for assigned programs, including reporting fields, participant classifications, target audiences, and other information needed to support program assessment and reporting.
• Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of assigned program records by reviewing database information and providing guidance and training to staff responsible for database maintenance.
• Develop, implement, and manage program assessment processes for assigned programs to evaluate effectiveness, measure progress, and inform program improvement.
• Define and maintain program objectives, success indicators, and reporting requirements for assigned programs to support annual planning, institutional reporting, and unit review.
Professional Service and University Engagement
Faculty Service • Provide individual consultation, guidance, and support to faculty on matters related to faculty development and academic life upon request.
• Deliver presentations to university departments and colleges, as requested.
University Service • Serve as a member of the University Faculty Development Council (UFDC).
• Serve as a member of the Department Chair Coordinating Council (DC3) and develop meeting agendas in consultation with the Faculty Center Director.
Professional Relationships • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with campus units, academic departments, faculty, administrators, and professional colleagues.
