Job Description The Opportunity    

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) seeks a dynamic, student-centered, and forward-thinking Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness Programming to provide visionary leadership  

  The Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness Programming leads fitness and wellness related programming and events. Incumbent will design, implement and evaluate programming and initiatives within the department and in collaboration with others. Area-specific program evaluation, continual process and policy review, as well as fitness center equipment and accessory inventory, and area-specific risk management also fall under the purview of the assistant director of fitness and wellness. Student employee fitness education, leadership development, and general supervision are key to the success of Fitness and Wellness programming.  

Primary Job Functions, Duties, or Accountabilities: Fitness Program Management and Fitness Center Equipment Maintenance   • Oversee the maintenance and inventory management of all fitness center exercise equipment. Including providing recommendations for layout and equipment purchase options. • Oversee and manage the creation and implementation of fitness and wellness programs and events including but not limited to:   • Personal training starting revenue goal: $15,000  • Group Fitness includes managing 3-studios, 25-50 classes per week, as well as recruiting, training, and evaluating instructors for each class.   • Training programs include curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation for 4-8 multi-week (up to 12 weeks) training programs for varying areas of fitness and wellness.   • Instructor training programs includes curriculum design, instruction, and evaluation for 8-10 weeks  • Trainings designed to prepare participants to take and pass certification exams required to become group fitness instructors or personal trainers. • Receive and submit fitness equipment repair requests, and coordinate with vendor to insure prompt completion.  • Responsible for the preparation, forecasting, and monitoring of income and expense budgets for group fitness, personal training, and fitness floor staff. • Lead in the creation and implementation of fitness and wellness events and programs including but not limited to: Campus and community-wide events including internal strength competitions, fitness and wellness expos, as well as large-scale community events such as the Homecoming and Blue and Gold week’s 5k races. • Oversee fitness equipment cleanliness and maintenance. • Coordinate with vendors to schedule and oversee preventative maintenance for fitness equipment and to ensure completion of equipment repairs in a timely manner. • Schedule and host on-campus fitness certification opportunities for staff and ERAU campus community. • Serve as main point of contact for any private fitness class/ event requests. Complete invoicing and billing. • Audit PT and GF staff performance and certifications to ensure compliance.  • Collaborate with other departments and student organizations for major fitness and wellness-related campus and community events.   • Analyze and evaluate programs for appropriate growth and improvement.   • Conduct group fitness classes, training classes and fitness orientations 

Student employee management and development  • Provide leadership for fitness staff (i.e. group fitness instructors, personal trainers, and fitness floor staff).  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule and evaluate group fitness instructors, personal trainers, and fitness floor staff. • Recruit, hire, train, assign clients and evaluate personal trainers to ensure program quality and client experience.  • Manage, schedule, and conduct fitness staff certifications, scheduling, and risk management skills and trainings. • Develop and implement core learning objectives for all fitness staff to be addressed in regular staff trainings.

Administrative and Supporting roles • Coordinate with Director of Fitness and Wellness to oversee departmental marketing needs, including management of social media accounts and marketing staff. • Work closely with Director of Fitness and Wellness to complete fitness center equipment installations and selections. • Respond to participant questions and concerns, monitor inventory, maintain fitness equipment and make recommendations for replacement.  • Approve staff timecards and complete shift scheduling. 

Other duties as assigned • Strong relationship-building skills, working with individuals of diverse communities and cultures. • Knowledge of and the ability to implement student development theory.  • Demonstrated excellence in written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. • Have a passion for developing students in a higher education setting. • Ability to effectively resolve conflicts, manage crises and emergencies, as well as an ability to foster a cooperative environment. • Ability to promote collaboration, teamwork, and involve stakeholders in the decision making process. • Proven commitment to diversity and equal opportunity as well as the academic, intellectual, and social development of all students. • Must have a valid and clear driver's license and be permitted to drive in the state of Florida. (If needed Serve as essential personnel to campus crisis, as designated by the Dean of Students.)
