What we want The Small Animal Veterinary Technician I, under the supervision of the Assistant Director of the Office of Veterinary Clinical Investigation (OVCI), will assist the lead veterinary clinical trials technician in the successful administration and management of veterinary clinical trials. The position will also include assisting with the OVCI's biobanking operations.

Qualifications Required Education and Experience • Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology, Biomedical Science, Animal Science or a related area, or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications • At least one year of small animal technical experience in a veterinary medicine setting with confident skills to collect biological samples such as blood and urine from cats and dogs.
• Strong proficiency with electronic medical record systems (EMR) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
• Graduation from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program and/or current licensure as a Veterinary Technician (RVT/LVT/CVT).
• Bachelor's degree in veterinary technology, Biomedical Science, Animal Science, or a related area.
• Two to five years' experience working in a small animal hospital or in a fast-paced veterinary teaching hospital with various specialty services.
• Prior experience or knowledge of veterinary clinical trial coordination/administration and previous experience working in a laboratory setting with basic laboratory skills or specimen processing and storage skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Strong ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others in a team environment.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication in English.
• Must be an effective communicator and very detail-oriented.
Responsibilities Veterinary Clinical Trial Administration • Assists with all duties needed to successfully run a veterinary clinical trial. This can include recruitment and follow-up, client education, obtaining client consent, scheduling visits, patient handling, assisting with the collection of biological samples such as blood/urine and the processing of those samples, patient monitoring, and administration of study drugs and placebo medications via IM, IV, PO, Sub-Q.
• Maintains complete and accurate medical records and excellent communication with large, multidisciplinary research teams.
Administrative Support • Assists with preparing regulatory documents, such as animal care and using protocols and client consent documents.
• Assists in designing study data collection forms, creating study budgets, data entry, prepare and maintain study binders, using social media for patient recruiting, tracking study compliance, and providing detailed record keeping.
• Performs various administrative tasks such as the ordering and maintenance of supplies and shipping samples.
Veterinary Biobank Technical Duties • Assists the lead clinical trials technician and biobanking student assistant with collection of biological samples from client-owned patients.
• Obtains client consent.
• Maintains detailed and accurate records, ensuring compliance, and following laboratory and standard operating procedure (SOP) protocols for proper sample processing, storage, and shipment.
• Establishes and updates working SOPs for sample collection and processing, maintenance of laboratory equipment, and basic knowledge of laboratory safety and compliance.
Additional Information Physical Requirements • Duties may involve sitting for extended periods of time.
• May involve standing and walking for extended periods on the clinic floor, laboratory areas or movement between buildings on campus.
• Must have the ability to work around and directly with animals, hay, or dust.
• Ability to move heavy loads.
Other Requirements and Factors • This position is security sensitive.
• This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures.
• All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.
• There may be occasional work beyond normal office hours.
