The University Library at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a User Services Student Development & Outreach Specialist (Library Specialist, LM031).
Position Summary:
This full-time position provides direction and development of career readiness skills for student employment across the Library’s User Services department. The position is responsible for the overall service and direction for the outreach efforts of the University Library, including events, programming and other campus/community collaborations in support of the Library and University goals. The position coordinates the hiring and scheduling of student employees in User Services. This position collaborates in the supervision and training of User Services’ student employees. Responsibilities also involve providing services at the Circulation Desk, including circulation of materials and general customer service. The position works closely with and reports to the User Services Librarian.
Responsibilities:
Student Development • Develops and provides mentorship structure for career readiness of student employees
• Collaborates with Library staff to create co-curricular library student projects
• Develops and assesses learning objectives related to student projects
• Works with Library staff and student employees to manage the timelines and communication of student projects
• Trains student employees on customer service, circulation and related library activities
• Develops procedures and policies for student manager peer leadership
• Coordinates with Library staff on the training of Library student employees
• Collaborates with User Services Librarian and staff to develop student training materials for User Services
• Utilizes UW-Whitewater's strategies for student employment as a high impact practice
• Participates in Library and campus committees relating to student employment and training
• Remains current on best practices on effective management of student employees
Student Supervision • Responsible for the management of student employees in User Services
• Develops and maintains User Services student employee schedules
• Collaborates with User Services staff to assign student employee work responsibilities
• Reviews and approves User Services student employee timesheets according to payroll schedule
• Coordinates the hiring of student employees for User Services
• Participates in the assessment and review of User Services student employees
• Assist with the tracking and management of student employee budget
Circulation Desk • Provides and maintains routine operation of circulation services with excellent customer service
• Ensures appropriate circulation and security of materials
• Promotes library services and assists patrons in their use
• Supports the general policies and procedures of the library
• Responds to user questions and complaints
• Assists with troubleshooting of library equipment, such as computers, printers and other equipment
Outreach • Serves as a point of contact for external library outreach to the UW-Whitewater main campus and communities for programming
• In consultation with library staff, develops collaborative programs and services with university units, organizations, and community groups
• Cultivates and maintains working relationships with liaisons from campus units
• Manages programming events according to planned timelines and budgets
• Collects and analyzes data and feedback to assess outreach efforts
• Participates in outreach-related Library work groups and teams
Miscellaneous Duties • Remains current and knowledgeable on university and library policies regarding student employment
• Maintains cooperative interpersonal relationships
• Participates in cross-training opportunities
• Attends library and university meetings, as needed
• Works on special projects as needed
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Participants in applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills

• Recommends, communicates, and oversees operating policies and procedures relevant to assigned area(s)
• Identifies opportunities and implements improvements to programs, processes, procedures, and/or services

Compensation:
Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary of $48,960.
