About this role
Department: Public Safety - Police Operations ----- Police Operations Support Position Title: Training Division Manager - Police Job Family Group: Professional Staff Job Description Summary: The Training Division Manager will be solely responsible for the direct management and oversight of all police training programs to ensure officers meet departmental, state, and national standards. This includes but is not limited to the development and evaluation of training programs and curriculum that are suitable for use within a healthcare setting to ensure the safety of patients, staff and officers. The Manager will operate with autonomy in developing strategic goals and objectives. This is a non-sworn position. Job Description: Job Duties • Responsible for researching trends in law enforcement specific to defensive tactics, firearms, active shooter response, basic police training, field training and create or adapt existing programs for implementation.
• Serve independently as the primary instructor in defensive tactics, firearms, and active shooter response.
• Responsible for selecting, managing and evaluating assistant instructors.
• Evaluate all police training programs for effectiveness and adherence to industry standards continually and independently.
• Manage, supervise and evaluate assistant instructors, field training officers and police trainees.
• Directs the department’s use of force program.
• Manage the department’s required Early Warning System (EWS) and forward concerns to police leadership for review.
• Manage the department’s 12-week Field Training Officer Program (FTO) for new officers.
• Maintain compliance with certification standards.
• Maintain training records on all personnel and report training hours to KSCPOST and Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center.
• Assist in policy development and ensure compliance with national accreditation standards.
• Coordinate with external training providers.

Required Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Certifications/Licenses: • Obtain certifications of the departments choosing in the areas of defensive tactics, firearms and active shooter response within one (1) year.
Work Experience: • Five (5) years of prior law enforcement experience. Education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
• Five (5) years of experience in managing public safety programs and/or employees. Education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
• Three (3) years of experience in a public safety training environment. Education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Certifications/Licenses: • Defensive Tactics: • PPCT Instructor

• Krav Maga Instructor
• Monadnock Certification
• Firearms: • NRA Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor

• Active Shooter: • ALERRT Certification
• FBI Active Shooter Certification
• NTOA Certification
• Additional: • Use of Force Instructor
• De-escalation Instructor
• Less-Lethal Instructor
• CPR/AED, Stop the Bleed, Tactical First Aid Instructor
Work Experience: • Supervisory or administrative experience.

Employee Type: Regular Time Type: Full time Rate Type: Salary Compensation Statement: The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
Pay Range: $80,600.00 - $120,900.00 Minimum $80,600.00 Midpoint $100,800.00 Maximum $120,900.00
