Job Posting Title: Texas Social Media Ambassador ---- Hiring Department: University Marketing and Communications ---- Position Open To: All Applicants ---- Weekly Scheduled Hours: 15 ---- FLSA Status: Non-Exempt from FLSA ---- Earliest Start Date: Immediately ---- Position Duration: Expected to Continue Until Jan 15, 2027 ---- Location: UT MAIN CAMPUS ---- Job Details: Purpose The University of Texas at Austin is looking for creative, curious and reliable students to serve as Texas Social Media Ambassadors (TSMA) for the 2026-27 academic year. As a Texas Social Media Ambassador, you'll help create content for UT Austin's flagship social media channels and our Be A Longhorn channels, sharing authentic student experiences with future Longhorns, current students, alumni and fans around the world.
Whether you're studying engineering, fine arts, business, education, liberal arts or anything in between, we're looking for students who love storytelling and want to help showcase life on the Forty Acres.
Career Competencies: This isn't just a campus job. It's an opportunity to build real-world communications experience and a professional portfolio while representing one of the nation's leading public universities.
Texas Social Media Ambassadors will: • Build a portfolio of published photo, video and written work
• Learn content strategy, storytelling and social media best practices
• Receive mentorship from communications professionals and subject matter experts across the University
• Gain experience working with a major brand
• Be featured on UT Austin and Be A Longhorn social media channels
• Develop skills that translate to careers in communications, marketing, media, journalism, public relations, content creation and beyond
General Notes We welcome applications from students of all majors and class years, including: First-year students; Sophomores; Juniors; Seniors; and Graduate students. Previous professional content creation experience is not required. We are looking for students who are creative, dependable, enthusiastic and eager to learn. Texas Social Media Ambassador positions are limited, and participation in the program is competitive. Applicants will be selected based on creativity, communication skills, professionalism, reliability and enthusiasm for sharing the UT Austin experience. No follower minimum is required.
Content Creation may include: • Producing short-form video content for Instagram, YouTube Shorts and other platforms
• Capturing photography around campus events, traditions and student life
• Creating day-in-the-life and behind-the-scenes content
• Highlighting academics, student organizations, campus resources and traditions
• Contributing to captions or blog-style content
• Participating in University campaigns and special projects
• Collaborating with professional communicators, photographers, videographers and social media strategists
Program Participation and Professional Experience: • Attend required monthly ambassador meetings and training sessions.
• Produce 2–3 approved content pieces each month.
• Respond promptly to communications, assignments and feedback.
• Meet established deadlines and fulfill assigned commitments.
• Follow University brand, accessibility and social media guidelines.
• Represent The University of Texas at Austin professionally in person and online.
• Dress in attire appropriate for the event and suitable for appearing in official University photography and video content, as requested.
Required Qualifications • Current UT Austin student for the 2026-27 academic year
• Must remain in good academic standing.
• Must be available to attend required monthly meetings and complete assignments throughout the semester.

Salary Range: • $15/hour
Scheduled Weekly Hours: • 15/hrs per week (Average 10–15 hours per week depending on assignments, events, and content production needs. Some evening or weekend availability may be required.)
Working Conditions: • Students may use their own smartphones and personal devices to capture content. Professional equipment and training may be provided for select projects.

(1) Your contact information, including: Full name, Major, Classification (first-year, sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student), Expected graduation date, and UT email address
(2) A brief written response (250 words or fewer) answering the following question: Why do you want to become a Texas Social Media Ambassador, and what would you bring to the program?
(3) A publicly accessible link to your "One Day in My Life" video that best represents your storytelling style. This does not need to be newly created—share the piece you're most proud of.
(4) A publicly accessible link to one "Dealer's Choice" content example that showcases your creativity and skills. This may be a short-form video, photography, graphic design, written content or another project that highlights your abilities as a creator.
