Position Summary / Career Interest: Join the University of Kansas Operating Room team as a Surgical Technologist – focused in our Neurology, ENT, Surgical Oncology specialties. Neurology & ENT programs are both ranked among the Nation’s Best in US News & World Report’s Best Hospitals 2024-2025. The University of Kansas Health System receives the most complex surgery cases in our region.

Neurology surgical cases include: Brain tumors, Epilepsy, Parkinson’s, Stroke, Myasthenia Gravis, Multiple sclerosis, ALS, Aneurysm, Traumatic brain injury. ENT cases include: face, head, neck jaw surgery, Endoscopic surgery for chronic sinuses disease, cochlear implants, skull base tumors, vagal nerve stimulation devices for seizure disorders, Endoscopic laser surgery for head & neck tumors, Thyroid/Parathyroid surgery.

Open positions start at 6:30am or 10:30am. Work 4 - 10 hour shift with call rotations.

The Surgical Technologist, under the direction of the Registered Nurse and the Nurse Manager, handles the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she has an understanding of the surgical procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the surgical procedure and is maintains constant vigilance of the sterile field.

Required Education and Experience • High School Graduate or equivalent. • Certificate or Associate’s Surgical Tech degree OR 3 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist in lieu of the certificate or degree requirement.

Required Licensure and Certification • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
