Internship Overview:

Seeking a motivated and analytical Supply Chain Intern to join Duke Energy's Supply Chain & Real Estate organization. This internship offers hands-on experience supporting strategic and operational supply chain initiatives across areas such as operations, analytics, sourcing, inventory management, process improvement, forecasting, business planning, supplier management, and operational excellence. Interns will work alongside experienced supply chain professionals to support projects that improve efficiency, optimize operations, strengthen decision-making, and deliver business value. Assignments may include exposure to distribution center operations, logistics, inventory management, sourcing, data analytics, process improvement, and business support functions.

Key Responsibilities • Strategic Sourcing & Procurement Support: Assist with sourcing initiatives, supplier research, market analysis, contract support activities, and procurement projects that help deliver value to the business.

• Supplier & Vendor Management: Support supplier performance evaluations, vendor coordination, supplier engagement activities, and relationship management efforts. Assist in identifying opportunities to improve supplier performance, drive efficiencies, and mitigate risk.

• Operations & Process Improvement: Support initiatives focused on operational efficiency, workflow optimization, productivity improvements, and continuous improvement across Supply Chain operations.

• I nventory Management, Planning & Forecasting: Assist with inventory analysis, demand planning, forecasting activities, material optimization, and supply chain planning processes that support operational readiness and business needs.

• Data Analytics & Reporting: Collect, analyze, and interpret operational, supplier, inventory, and business performance data. Develop reports, dashboards, and recommendations to support decision-making.

• Business Case Development: Support business case evaluations by conducting research, analyzing costs and benefits, evaluating operational and commercial impacts, and developing recommendations for leadership consideration.

• Project Support: Provide support for supply chain projects and initiatives by coordinating activities, tracking milestones, documenting progress, and collaborating with stakeholders across the organization.

• Supply Chain Research & Analysis: Conduct research on market conditions, supply chain trends, supplier capabilities, logistics networks, operational best practices, and emerging industry opportunities to support strategic initiatives.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with teams across Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, Engineering, and business support functions to understand business challenges and develop solutions.

• Field & Business Exposure: Participate in site visits, supplier engagements, and operational observations to gain firsthand understanding of sourcing, procurement, warehouse operations, logistics networks, inventory management practices, and material flow processes.

Basic/Required Qualifications • Currently enrolled and pursuing a bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university in:   Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering , Business, Operations Management, Engineering, Economics, Finance, Analytics, Data Science , o r a related field.

• Cumulative GPA of at least 2.75.

• Must not graduate prior to August 2027.

Desired Qualifications • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

• Demonstrated interest in supply chain operations, industrial engineering, logistics, inventory management, analytics, forecasting, business operations, or process improvement.

• Leadership potential demonstrated through internships, athletics, community service, campus organizations, or extracurricular activities.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.  

• Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills.

• Strong planning and organizational skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

• Self-driven, motivated, and proactive.

• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Power BI, or other analytical tools is preferred.

• Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, process improvement, modeling, simulation, or data analytics coursework is a plus

Working Conditions • Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility. Reliable, consistent transportation is required to ensure timely arrival at the applicable facility.

• Some opportunities require a valid driver’s license
