Job Description Job Summary

Provides routine non-classroom, academic instruction to students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Meets students and go over their homework assignments in applicable subject area.

• Ask students about specific topics or subject areas that warrant further exploration.

• Review homework and test scores, and work through problems or questions.

• Provides study aids to assist. May perform as lead for other Tutors.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities • Tutor students, individually and in groups.

• Facilitate learning of course material.

• Lead SI (Supplemental Instruction) sessions.

• Model effective learning and study strategies for content mastery.

• Attend assigned classes.

• Arrange and keep work hours at the ULC.

• Develop and maintain a professional relationship with SI course instructors.

• Maintain confidential records.

• Prepare reports.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements • Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.

• Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.

• Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).

Preferred Requirements • Experience working with college/university students in an educational setting.

• Tutoring experience in content area.

Knowledge and Abilities • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

• Ability to interact effectively, professionally, and tactfully with students, faculty, and other university personnel.

• Ability to motivate students.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

• Ability to arrange and keep a work schedule.

• Strong academic knowledge in content area.

• Computer literate in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

• Ability to prepare and facilitate workshops, presentations, and orientations to groups of students.

• Ability to think critically and problem solve.

Other Requirements • Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.

• Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

• Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule.

• Promptly complete all required trainings.

• Submit time sheet biweekly.

• Some evening and weekend work may be required.

• Subject to funding and/or need.

Pay of Rate : $10.50/hour for up to 19 hours weekly
