Purpose:
Texas Athletics Softball is looking for a Student Manager for the 2026-2027 academic year. The Student Manager will be an essential member of the department’s equipment t who will assist the Softball team with catching bullpens, field set up, washing team laundry, etc. This position will report to the Softball Director of Operations.
Responsibilities: • Assist in fundamentals of practice (catch bullpen, front toss, etc.) • Effectively catch pitches ranging in placement and velocities from 55 to 70 MPH, receive, block and throw softballs with precision and accuracy • Assist in setup and clean-up of all equipment and stations before and after practice • Wash practice laundry • Follow all NCAA, conference and team rules and regulations • Perform other duties as assigned • Consistently exemplify the core values and quality service standards of Texas Athletics. Actively participate in assigned education and training programs. Comply with all laws, policies, rules and regulations set forth by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System, The University of Texas at Austin, NCAA, Conference, or other governing body, including state and federal laws. Annually obtain prior written approval and report all outside activities and outside income. Report knowledge of, or reasonable cause to believe, violation(s) of state or federal laws, policies, rules, or regulations of the University, Conference, or NCAA to IA ARMCS or IA HR. Fully cooperate with any investigation by providing complete and accurate information when requested to do so by Texas Athletics and/or the NCAA and do not influence others in any way during an investigation. In compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and Texas Education Code Sec. 51.252, this position may be a Non-Confidential Employee as defined by University policies on Sex Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, Sexual Assault, Interpersonal Violence and Stalking. As a Non-Confidential Employee, individuals employed in this position will report incidents of such prohibited conduct to the University’s Title IX Coordinator or Deputy Title IX Coordinator as required by applicable law or University policy. Required Qualifications: • Minimum of 2 years of experience catching in a bullpen for softball or baseball pitchers at the high-school or collegiate level • Demonstrated ability to effectively catch pitches ranging in speeds from 55 to 70 MPH, receive, block and throw a softball or baseball with accuracy and precision • Ability to pitch to hitters. • Willingness and ability to learn underhand pitching techniques as required for team practices and training activities. • Ability to work as part of a team • Demonstrated success in dependability and responsibility • Must be a University of Texas at Austin student, enrolled for at least 6 credit hours • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications: • 2+ years’ experience in or with softball/baseball programs at the high-school or collegiate level
Salary Range: • $9.00+ depending on qualifications/relevant experience
Working Conditions: • Repetitive use of a keyboard at workstation • Use of manual dexterity • Climbing of stairs • Some heavy lifting involved (up to 50lbs.) • Some running, walking and squatting • May stand for extensive amounts of time • May work in all weather conditions • May work in extreme temperatures • May work around standard office conditions • Required to wear Texas gear, uniform and full set of catching gear
Work Shift: • Fall 2026-Spring 2027 (Rehire eligible based on performance) • Work to be performed in-person, on campus and is not eligible for remote work • Must be available to attend practices and games • May work early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays
