IMEG is hiring a Structural Project Engineer to join our team in Urbandale, IA, with flexibility to be based in select IMEG offices across the Midwest. In this role, you will lead design efforts for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff on larger, more complex work. You will help deliver engineering solutions and advice to clients through analysis, design, and implementation oversight of structural systems for buildings and other structures.

You will work closely with engineers, consultants, and cross-functional teams to support project execution, budgeting, scheduling, mentoring, and client communication. This team supports structural, commercial, and institutional work, with active projects across healthcare, education, housing, industrial, and public-sector markets in the Midwest and beyond, contributing to sustainable design goals including SE2050.

What You'll Do • Lead analysis and design of structural systems using a variety of building materials. • Create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools according to code requirements and IMEG standards. • Work with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, and communicate technical information effectively. • Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication. • Support consulting project execution as part of a project team. • Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling efforts to meet deadlines and objectives. • Document design decisions and client instructions, and monitor design progress related to percent complete and fee expended. • Analyze engineering problems and develop practical, efficient solutions with senior engineers and consultants. • Perform in-process reviews of structural designs, calculations, and specifications, and implement quality control processes to meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements. • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and structural engineering best practices, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG. • Prioritize safety, act ethically and professionally, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals. • Identify potential project problems, seek advice from the Project Manager, and support projects through bidding, design, and construction administration phases.

What You'll Bring Education and Experience • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required • Professional Engineer (PE) License Preferred • 2 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry

Skills and Abilities • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications • Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in mechanics and materials, load paths, design techniques, design standards including steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and other structures • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff • Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including structural engineering design and analysis software • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges • Proficiency in the use of BIM software • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays

Preferred • Master’s Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferred
