IMEG is hiring a Structural Engineering New Grad in Raleigh, NC. This entry-level role offers hands-on design, analysis, and project execution experience, with mentorship, training, and opportunities to grow your expertise from day one. You will work closely with experienced engineers and consultants to support engineering solutions and advice for structural systems.
You will support project execution by assisting with design development, documentation, coordination, and construction-phase activities while working within project budgets and collaborating across disciplines to meet project goals and client expectations. The team supports commercial work and a broad Southeast portfolio that includes public-sector, education, healthcare, and multifamily projects, contributing to sustainable design goals including SE2050.

What You'll Do • Assist in the design and analysis of structural systems using a variety of building materials, applying engineering software and tools to create designs, specifications, and calculations in line with code requirements and IMEG standards. • Interact with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information, and build professional relationships. • Support the execution of consulting projects as part of a project team. • Assist with project planning, scheduling, and documenting design decisions and client instructions while monitoring design progress. • Analyze low to medium complexity engineering tasks and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions. • Participate in IMEG quality control processes to help ensure designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements. • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in structural engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG. • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work, conduct yourself in an ethical and professional manner, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals. • Engage in the full life cycle of projects from conception through construction by developing designs, construction documents, and supporting construction administration duties such as reviewing construction submittals and participating in job site observations. • Work within the project’s monetary budget while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.
What You'll Bring Education • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required • Master’s Degree (MS) required

Required Skills/Abilities • Knowledge of design techniques, design standards including steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and structures • Strong technical and analytical skills including knowledge of principles relating to structural mechanics and materials as it relates to structural design of buildings and other structures • Knowledge of industry standard engineering software and tools including structural analysis and design software • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrate effective team building skills • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges • Basic knowledge in the use of BIM software. • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook • Ability to travel up to 5% with occasional overnight stays
Preferred • Master’s Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferred • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred • Engineering in Training (EIT) License preferred
About the Team • High-capacity Southeast structural team with especially strong public-sector, education, healthcare, and multifamily presence. • Project work includes K-12, community college, and university assignments. • The team also supports healthcare, hospitals, MOBs, and behavioral health projects, along with municipal, public safety, corrections, and airport or transit work. • Additional experience includes multifamily, affordable housing, and mixed-use developments. • Recent work includes Lenovo Center modifications, Red Hat Amphitheater, Raleigh Convention Center, Commercial; Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center Heart and Vascular Institute and Patient Bed Tower / Wilmington, NC, Healthcare; and Wake Forest Student Union, ECU athletics facilities, Duke University softball facilities, Education.
