About this role

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Conducting structural and dynamic analysis of valves, tubing, mounts, etc. • Conducting structural analysis on non-linear thermal protection materials, designs, and attachments • Support design certification for thermal structural components • Providing technical guidance, oversight, and analysis review/approval for designers and other analysts completing structural analysis • Identification of opportunities for safety improvements, cost savings, and weight savings • Supporting configuration development and trade studies • Review supplier analyses and supporting qualification efforts • Maintain and report on work tasks, schedule, and technical status
Minimum Qualifications • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering • 8+ years of experience in the structural and dynamic analysis of pressurized components and systems including valves, tubing/piping, assemblies • Experience with FEA analysis tools (ANSYS and/or Abaqus preferred) including structural, dynamic, and thermal analyses • Working knowledge of 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E and Pro/E Piping module preferred) • Experience overseeing, reviewing, or approving other analyst’s work • Expertise with fatigue analysis and fracture mechanics (hand calcs, NASGRO, VCCT, etc) • Knowledge of manufacturing methods, material selection, testing, characterization & allowables development • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships • Ability to understand, document, and incorporate into the appropriate analysis models material and geometry nonlinearity and changing load paths • Ability to build in the appropriate set of material definitions into a local database with documentation • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications • Experience with the analysis of components involving welding or casting • Experience with statistical analysis for preparation of design allowables • Experience with cryogenic systems • Deep understanding of bulk and film polymer and metal behavior under various load types and across significant temperature ranges and the ability to identify the appropriate analysis approach and interpretation of the resultant data • Experience with one or more of the following analysis codes: Nastran, Ansys (structural, dynamic, thermal, CFD), Abaqus, LS-Dyna, Optistruct
Base Pay Range for: CO applicants is $133,500.00 - $186,898.95
WA applicants is $145,188.00 - $203,263.20 Other site ranges may differ
