Job Description:

  Are you interested in joining one of the fastest growing public accounting firms?   Would you like the ability to specialize in a specific area of tax and become an expert to your clients?   If yes, consider joining Baker Tilly (BT) as a State & Local Tax Associate! Our SALT practice is made up of professionals across the U.S., providing a full spectrum of services including income & franchise tax, sales & use tax, real &   personal property   tax, unclaimed   property   and voluntary disclosure & remediation by industry needs.       You will enjoy this role if:  

• You would like to work directly with CFO’s, owners and leaders from middle market and Fortune 500 companies to help them solve their most complex state & local tax challenges.  

• You want to continue to expand your work experiences beyond compliance and build skills as a comprehensive SALT professional in areas such as, sales tax nexus, research projects, ruling requests, process review, reverse audit, credits &   incentives   and property tax. Most of your work will be consulting focused!  

• You would like to work directly with firm leadership to support middle market and fortune 500 companies with sales & use tax issues and compliance  

• You are looking to be part of a fast growing, state & local tax practice who is also down-to-earth and thrives through collaboration

  What you will do:  

• Be a trusted advisor to   middle market   and Fortune 500 clients by providing strategic state and local tax consulting services that lower their tax rates, ensure they   are in compliance   and provide value across the spectrum of state and local taxes. This includes:  

• Research state tax issues including nexus determinations, taxability   analyses   and quantification of potential liabilities  

• Respond to notices issued by state and local taxing   jurisdictions  

• Work with multi-state companies to provide guidance on state and local tax controversies, including research and preparing written protests  

• Assist   with due diligence and voluntary disclosure projects  

• Prepare memoranda on state and local tax issues for individuals, corporations,   partnerships   and LLCs  

• Prepare and file state and local sales tax returns for various   jurisdictions   for multiple clients  

• Interact and manage multiple clients in a deadline-oriented environment while   maintaining   exceptional accuracy and attention to detail  

• Analyze   large amounts   of client data  

• Maintain internal relationships with colleagues, other service   lines   and engagement/project teams  

• Develop and   retain   technical tax   expertise  

• Proactively   identify   and communicate issues as they arise  

• Maintain a positive and “team player” attitude  

• Become familiar with and adhere to the firm’s policies and procedures  

• Apply a working knowledge of various computer applications  

• Learn and grow from direct on the job coaching and mentoring along with participating in firm wide learning and development programs  

• Enjoy friendships, social activities and team outings that encourage a work-life balance  

Qualifications  

  Successful candidates will have:  

• Bachelor’s or master's   degree in accounting or law, or a related degree in business, with sufficient course work and credits to sit for the CPA and/or Bar exam in the state you are being considered  

• Outstanding academic performance required, with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above

• Demonstrated skills in the ar
