Position Summary This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing team at the new WashU-owned and operated fluoroscopy suite in Sunset Hills. The Radiologic Technologist performs specialized diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures using fluoroscopy and C‑arm equipment, with a focus on musculoskeletal (MSK) spine and joint steroid injection procedures. In this role, you will work side by side with world-class, academic PM&R physicians, gaining hands-on experience in advanced procedural techniques while ensuring accurate imaging, patient safety, and procedural efficiency.

The technologist supports outpatient PM&R procedural workflows, promotes patient comfort, and strictly adheres to radiation safety and infection control standards.

Position performs diagnostic radiographic examinations, applying principles of radiation protection and principles of effective patient care.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Perform fluoroscopy/C‑arm imaging for spine and joint steroid injections, including epidural, facet, sacroiliac, and peripheral joint injections. • Prepare and maintain imaging equipment, sterile procedural trays, and C‑arm positioning for interventional MSK procedures. • Assist PM&R physicians with real‑time imaging during complex MSK procedures, ensuring optimal visualization of bony and soft tissue structures. • Identify and troubleshoot imaging challenges specific to spine and joint anatomy and procedural requirements. • Communicate with patients regarding procedure preparation, positioning, and safety precautions. • Ensure patient safety and comfort during positioning for spine and joint injections • Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and clinical staff to facilitate smooth procedural flow. • Provide patient education on procedural expectations and post-procedure care. • Follow ALARA radiation safety principles and maintain proper sterile technique throughout MSK procedures. • Conduct daily equipment quality control and report any malfunctions or safety concerns. • Monitor patient responses during procedures and intervene as appropriate, including recognizing complications. • Maintain accurate procedural documentation and upload fluoroscopic images to PACS/EHR. • Enter charges and procedural codes contemporaneously with imaging services. • Support efficient patient throughput while maintaining high-quality imaging standards. • Participate in continuing education, in-services, and quality improvement initiatives related to interventional MSK imaging and procedural techniques. • Stay current on advances in MSK fluoroscopy, injection guidance, and spine/joint imaging best practices. • Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Job Location/Working Conditions • Clinical environment with potential exposure to radiation; strict adherence to safety and protective protocols is required.

Physical Effort • Ability to stand for extended periods, assist with patient positioning, and operate/handle C‑arm equipment during procedures. • May support procedural scheduling and perform limited administrative tasks as needed. • Must be able to wear a lead vest for multiple hours throughout the day during fluoroscopy procedures.

Equipment • Fluoroscopy and C‑arm imaging systems used for spine and joint MSK procedures. • X‑ray and digital radiography equipment for procedural imaging. Sterile procedural trays, instruments, and positioning aids for interventional procedures. • PACS, RIS, and EHR systems for image acquisition, documentation, and storage. • Radiation monitoring devices and personal protective equipment (lead aprons, shields, dosimeters). • Ancillary procedural equipment, including contrast injectors or specialty positioning tools for MSK spine and joint injections.

Required Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience. More than one credential, certification or professional license may be required depending on the role.

Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, Basic Life Support - American Red Cross, Radiography (R) Certification and Registration - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Work Experience: No specific work experience is required for this position. More About This Job Required Qualifications: • Graduate of Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (AMA) or accredited radiography program. • Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within one month of hire date • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements). 

​ Preferred Qualifications: • Prior experience assisting with spine or joint injections, epidural procedures, facet or sacroiliac injections. • Knowledge of procedural workflows in outpatient MSK or PM&R interventional suites. • Advanced imaging skills specific to spine/joint positioning and fluoroscopic technique.
