About this role

Application close date: Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed. At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will help define Blue Origin's Human Landing System (HLS) — the lander that will carry astronauts to the surface of the Moon and return them safely to Orion. On the System Definition & Certification team you work across requirements, system safety, verification & validation, and certification — the instruments we use to prove the vehicle is safe to fly crew. You will serve as a senior systems engineer and Responsible Engineer across a major area of the vehicle — owning the requirements, safety, and verification baseline, setting technical direction, and mentoring the engineers around you. We favor lean, tool-driven workflows over moving data by hand, and we would rather build the tool that removes the busywork than staff it.

Special Mentions • Relocation provided • Travel expected up to 25 % of the time to support cross-site and partner coordination • Interviews will include a technical assessment • Multiple positions available

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Serve as a senior systems engineer and Responsible Engineer owning the requirements, safety, and verification baseline across a major vehicle area or the inter-element seams between areas • Lead requirements analysis, decomposition, and allocation, and shape the architecture decisions that flow from them • Own the verification & validation approach for your area and lead anomaly investigations, root-cause analysis, and recovery when the vehicle does not behave as designed • Set the risk-based standard for how variances and deviations are dispositioned in your area • Develop lean, tool-driven processes for requirements, safety, and V&V and earn their adoption across the team and design IPTs • Act as the working-level technical interface for your area across IPTs and, as needed, with the customer and partners • Review the deliverables of others for subtle flaws and gaps, not just surface correctness • Mentor engineers and set technical direction for your scope

Minimum Qualifications • B.S. in aerospace, systems, or a related engineering field (M.S. preferred); an advanced degree may substitute for a portion of the experience requirement • 8+ years of relevant systems engineering experience with demonstrated ownership across requirements, system safety, and V&V • Demonstrated experience owning a major technical area or the seams between areas as a Responsible Engineer, largely without oversight • - Track record of leading anomaly investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action on high-consequence issues • - Demonstrated ability to develop lean engineering processes and earn their adoption without relying on direct authority • - Deep fluency with SE tooling (Jama, Cameo, Windchill, DOORS) and the judgment to drive tool decisions that reduce manual effort • - Demonstrated technical mentoring and the ability to set technical direction for a scope • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications • Advanced degree in an engineering or technical discipline • Human spaceflight, crewed vehicle, launch vehicle, or other complex integrated-system experience • Experience from another safety-critical or regulated industry (e.g., medical devices, commercial aviation, nuclear, automotive) owning the requirements, verification, or safety baseline for a major product area • Experience as a customer-facing technical interface (NASA or a comparable government/prime customer) on requirements, verification, or system safety • History of introducing tools or methods adopted at scale that measurably cut cycle time or error rate • Experience across multiple lifecycle phases (design through operations) and familiarity with certification processes
