A Day in the Life A Day in the Life • Work and lead within a cross-functional team to design, develop, test, and document innovative imaging system solutions utilizing software and hardware components. • Lead the characterization and optimization of image quality performance at the system level, considering the interaction of imaging hardware, software, reconstruction, and image processing pipelines. • Collaborate across marketing, quality, software, hardware, and test teams to ensure the imaging chain meets product requirements and clinical use needs. • Lead the definition and development of user needs, business needs, use cases, requirements, and system architecture. • Lead the engineering analysis to optimize and select system-level concepts to ensure the final solution fulfills needs, requirements, use cases, environments, and the overall system vision. • Plan and execute user evaluations in lab-based surgical environments or other formative evaluation events to gain insightful feedback on system concepts. • Partner and collaborate with surgeons, surgical staff, hospital administrators, and Medtronic field teams to translate clinical and operational needs into solutions that integrate seamlessly into surgical practice and hospital systems – enhancing both usability and adoption. • Collaborate with core team/program leaders, Chief Engineers, product managers, R&T leaders to align technical decisions across platforms/portfolios, resolving integration and experience challenges and delivering solutions that feel cohesive and interconnected. • Lead teams in identifying and mitigating technical risks, product hazards, and failure modes. • Troubleshoot system component integration and support surgical procedure integration of the design. • Provide technical leadership along with computer-assisted, robotic-assisted, and clinical procedure subject matter expertise to internal and cross-business development teams.

Nice to Have • Experience in the medical device industry and/or surgical techniques. • Experience with X-ray imaging systems, including system performance characterization and image quality optimization. • Expertise analyzing end-to-end imaging pipelines, including detector behavior, acquisition, calibration, reconstruction, image processing, and display. • Expertise troubleshooting image quality artifacts and performance limitations in imaging systems. • Experience applying AI tools effectively, while exercising sound engineering judgment, technical accuracy, and appropriate review of outputs. • Expertise in leading cross-functional or multi-platform engineering activities across product definition, specification, test, and launch. • Experience in Systems Engineering as related to stakeholder needs definition, creation of use case workflows, requirements definition and decomposition, functional architecture, and system design. • Experience planning and conducting user evaluations of product concepts, analyzing data, documenting evaluation methods and results, and presenting design recommendations to product teams. • Experience with software design, algorithm design, GUI design, and iterative software development practices. • Familiarity and experience working with Matlab, Linux, C++, or scripting languages. • Experience with mechanical and/or electrical design, mechanical/electrical drawings, tolerance analysis, and computer-aided design (CAD). • Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to influence across the organization. • Ability to provide creativity while solving complex problems without known solutions. • Ability to quickly prototype new concepts and ideas. • Ability to assess new technologies via comprehensive reviews of the state-of-the-art • Project management skills including leading a project team as well as planning and estimation of tasks, milestones, resources, and budget. • Strong leadership skills and mentoring capabilities. • Ability to drive change.                     Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, evaluates alternatives including cost and risk, supportability and analyses for total systems. • Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

TECHNICAL SPECIALIST CAREER STREAM: An individual contributor with responsibility in our technical functions to advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. Formulates, delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results. May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower level professionals. The majority of time is spent delivering R&D, systems or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies – from design to implementation - while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills.
