Job Description

Position Overview The Senior Manager, Energy Storage Supply Chain & Technology will drive the development and execution of procurement strategies for Invenergy’s Battery Energy Storage project portfolio.  This role combines supply chain management, technical product evaluation, market intelligence, and supplier relationship management to identify and qualify battery energy storage systems (BESS) equipment solutions that meet Invenergy’s commercial and strategic objectives.  The position will be based in Chicago, Illinois, and will require travel up to 25% of the time. This role reports to the Senior Vice President, Energy Storage Engineering and Procurement.

Invenergy follows a hybrid schedule, working in office Monday through Thursday and remotely on Fridays.

Duties and Responsibilities: • Build and lead a highly functioning, capable team to help drive and scale Invenergy’s Battery Energy Storage procurement program, with emphasis on the following subject matter areas.

• Supply Chain Management and Strategy – Continuously monitor and evaluate supply chain changes and evolutions in the marketplace. Assess and make recommendations regarding BESS equipment supplier partnerships and equipment selections for Invenergy’s BESS project pipeline. Formulate portfolio-level sourcing strategies for BESS equipment based on supply chain, product, and vendor evaluations.

• Technical Product Evaluation – Perform early technical due diligence on BESS product offerings including but not limited to DC blocks and power conversion systems (PCS) with support from the BESS Engineering Team.  Work with suppliers to understand product roadmaps and R&D programs.  Coordinate with internal stakeholders to evaluate and validate new products and technologies for deployment within Invenergy's BESS portfolio.

• Supplier Relationship Management – Lead the management of existing commercial relationships with key BESS suppliers and work to evaluate and establish new supplier relationships. Perform supplier and product qualification reviews including assessment of technical capabilities, quality programs, and manufacturing standards.  Track and report on supplier performance, pricing, quality, and supply chain developments.

• Market Intelligence – Maintain a strong understanding of BESS equipment market dynamics including technology trends, supply chain developments, policy changes, and cost trends.  Report on market insights to inform procurement strategies, supplier engagement approach, and contract negotiations and management.

• Supply Contract Support - Actively participate in contract negotiations with suppliers on technical scope, schedule, warranty and performance guarantee issues supporting our commercial contracts team and with support of our BESS Engineering Team and other relevant stakeholders.

• Trade and Tax - Actively engage with our tax, legal and regulatory teams on Trade and Tax-related issues concerning supply chain compliance, regulatory compliance, tax-related compliance issues and import limitations and restrictions.

• Communication - Communicate with leadership on critical issues concerning supply chain risks and opportunities, new products and chemistries and supplier relationships.

Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, supply chain management, business, or a related field

• 8+ years of experience in one or more of the following disciplines: engineering, project management, procurement and strategic sourcing

• Experience building and managing teams of technical professionals

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future

• Valid driver’s license required.

Preferred Qualifications: • Advanced degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field

• At least 5 years of experience working in the energy storage industry

• Technical understanding of BESS equipment as well as general project engineering and construction principles

• Track record managing strategic suppliers, contractors, or other relevant third parties

• Strong negotiation skills with an understanding of equipment supply contracts

• Understanding of geopolitical impacts on supply chain and procurement decisions

• Familiarity with basic elements of global trade such as tariffs and various importation restrictions/limitations

• Strong organizational and data analysis skills

• Desire to work in a dynamic environment alongside people with multiple interests and backgrounds. Domestic and international travel required.

Base Pay

$150,000.00 - $180,000.00 USD Annual Bonus: 25% - 40%

The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills.   In addition to base pay, the total annual compensation package may also include eligibility to participate in our bonus program(s) which are designed to reward individual and company performance.
