Job Description: The Sr. Facilities Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, operation, reliability, maintenance, and continuous improvement of critical mechanical utility systems supporting semiconductor manufacturing operations. This role serves as a key technical resource for HVAC, cleanroom environmental systems, process cooling water (PCW), chilled water, boilers, exhaust systems, vacuum systems, compressed gases, and associated facility infrastructure.
You will partner closely with Facilities Operations, Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Quality, EHS, Construction, and external contractors to ensure safe, reliable, and scalable facility operations that support 24/7 manufacturing activities and future site expansion. This position combines strategic engineering project leadership with daily operational support and reliability improvement initiatives
Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical Utilities & Reliability
• Support operation, maintenance, and optimization of facility mechanical systems serving cleanroom and manufacturing environments.
• Develop reliability strategies for chillers, cooling towers, HVAC systems, process cooling water, boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, vacuum systems, and compressed gas distribution systems.
• Analyze system performance and identify opportunities to improve uptime, energy efficiency, and operational reliability.
• Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions for facility-related failures.
• Establish engineering standards and best practices for facility mechanical infrastructure.
Facility Engineering Projects
• Lead and execute capital and expense projects involving mechanical utility systems, facility expansions, equipment installations, and infrastructure upgrades.
• Develop project scopes, technical specifications, cost estimates, schedules, and contractor work packages.
• Coordinate construction, commissioning, startup, and acceptance testing activities.
• Manage external engineering firms, vendors, installers, and service providers to ensure successful project execution.
• Ensure facility projects align with manufacturing growth and capacity requirements.
Cleanroom & Environmental Systems
• Support cleanroom environmental performance, including temperature, humidity, pressure relationships, airflow, and contamination control.
• Monitor and optimize exhaust, make-up air, filtration, and cleanroom HVAC systems.
• Partner with manufacturing and process engineering teams to maintain facility conditions required for semiconductor production.
• Support facility qualification, validation, and compliance activities.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
• Develop and improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs for mechanical utility equipment.
• Utilize reliability-centered maintenance principles and condition-monitoring techniques, including vibration analysis and thermography.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.
• Support CMMS utilization and maintenance planning activities.
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
• Support EHS programs including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, contractor safety, and operational risk assessments.
• Participate in facility audits, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action implementation.
• Promote safe work practices and operational excellence across the site.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Partner with Facilities Operations, Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Equipment Engineering, Quality, EHS, and Supply Chain teams to support production objectives .
• Provide technical guidance during equipment installations, process changes, and facility modifications.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for mechanical utility systems and mentor junior engineers and technicians.
• Support long-term facility capacity planning and infrastructure roadmaps.
Preferred Qualifications & Experiences:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of experience supporting facility mechanical systems in semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, pharmaceutical, data center, or other critical infrastructure environments.
• Strong knowledge of: HVAC and cleanroom systems, Chillers and cooling towers, Process cooling water systems, Boiler and steam systems, Vacuum and compressed gas systems, and Pumps, valves, piping, and heat exchangers.
• Experience managing engineering projects, contractors, and facility modifications.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
• Experience supporting semiconductor manufacturing facilities
