About this role
Job Posting Title: Sr Civil Designer Req ID: 10159629 Job Description: As a Civil Designer in A&FE, you will independently manage Disney's owner's-representative responsibilities for underground utility coordination, grading, drainage, and stormwater compliance on moderate-to-high complexity projects and develop civil design work in support of the Engineer of Record. This role does not require a PE license and does not carry Engineer of Record authority — design deliverables are developed under the stamp and technical sign-off of a licensed Civil Engineer. You will act as a technical resource for less experienced staff and work in close collaboration with architects, engineers, and multiple internal Disney project teams.
You will report to the Sr. Manager, Civil/Structural Engineering.
What You Will Do Owner's Representative (Primary Role) • Independently serve as Disney's owner's representative for civil and underground utility infrastructure on assigned capital and sustaining projects, overseeing outside engineers, contractors, and utility purveyors on Disney's behalf.
• Scope and justify IFP (Integrated Facility Planning) projects for current and future fiscal year planning, including site walks, written scope development, code research, and production of plans and sketches.
• Oversee and enforce compliance with Disney civil engineering standards and details across assigned projects and consultant deliverables.
• Represent Disney in coordinating gas, water, sewer, storm drain, and electrical/communications duct bank work with utility purveyors and contractors.
• Coordinate with the Resort GIS team on Disney's behalf to ensure accurate underground utility mapping and asset data.
• Oversee compliance review of grading, drainage, and utility plans for space planning and tenant improvement efforts on Disney's behalf.
• Oversee resort-wide stormwater systems, retaining walls, and site drainage infrastructure condition assessments, directing repair as required.
• Represent Disney with local municipalities, utility purveyors, and regulatory agencies (e.g., MS4/NPDES stormwater compliance) on permitting and inspections.
• Represent Disney's interests in the development of corporate-wide civil standards, including grading, drainage, and utility infrastructure criteria.
• Review consultant/contractor RFIs, submittals, and change requests for civil compliance and cost/schedule impact on Disney's behalf.
• Track project budget, schedule, and scope on behalf of Disney for assigned civil/utility work; escalate risks to project leadership.
• Oversee project closeout, punch walks, and documentation handoff on Disney's behalf.
• Provide technical support for legal claims as Disney's civil engineering representative.
Civil Design (Secondary Role) • Independently develop civil design work at all stages of assigned projects — from concept through construction documentation — in accordance with Disney quality standards, under the technical sign-off of a licensed Civil Engineer of Record.
• Prepare grading, drainage, and utility design drawings, details, and specifications that comply with applicable codes and stormwater regulations.
• Resolve civil/utility design issues creatively, coordinating design intent across other disciplines and with the GIS team on utility data accuracy.
• Support the Engineer of Record in responding to agency plan check comments, RFIs, and submittals requiring engineering analysis.
• Develop custom civil design details to support unique site and infrastructure conditions, for EOR review and approval.
• Act as a technical resource for less experienced designers and engineers; mentor junior staff on civil design software, standards, and drafting conventions.
What We Look For • Professional design experience across a wide range of civil/utility project types.
• Demonstrated experience serving as owner's representative with utility agencies and municipalities.
• Construction administration experience, including site observation and review of RFIs and submittals.
• Direct experience preparing civil contract drawings and specifications in support of a licensed Engineer of Record.
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Extensive working knowledge of grading, drainage, and stormwater regulations (including MS4/NPDES compliance), applied under an EOR's technical direction.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and time-management/organizational skills.
• Strong written, verbal, and graphical communication skills, including the ability to build consensus with external agencies.
• Ability to work independently on assigned programs and projects, exercising judgment on when to escalate to the Engineer of Record.
• Ability to manage multiple assigned projects simultaneously, often against tight deadlines.
Required Education and Qualifications • BS in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related design/drafting field; equivalent practical experience considered in lieu of degree.
• 7+ years of applicable civil design experience
• No PE license required; this role does not carry Engineer of Record authority.
Preferred Qualifications • EIT certification or progress toward PE licensure.
• Experience with resort or campus-scale underground utility infrastructure.
• Experience coordinating with GIS teams on utility asset data.
