About this role
Application close date: Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed. At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit.
We are a team of engineers, technicians, and visionaries shaping the future of space. At Blue Origin, our mission is to build a road to space for the benefit of Earth, and we are developing reusable space vehicles and infrastructure that will dramatically lower the cost of access to space.
As part of the Blue National Security – Core Systems & Components Team , you will be at the forefront of developing groundbreaking systems that will connect our future in space. We are seeking a passionate and accomplished engineer to own the critical transition of the internal harnessing and electronics packaging for our flight-qualified component from ideation to development to high-rate production. This is a rare opportunity to directly shape the manufacturability, reliability, and scalability of a cornerstone technology for Blue Origin’s future.
Responsibilities:
As a Level 4 Harnessing and Packaging Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader responsible for the design, integration, and production readiness of all internal harnessing and packaging within the TeraWave flight product . You will apply your expertise to mature our designs, ensuring they are not only robust for the space environment but also optimized for efficient, large-scale , automated manufacturing.
• Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFM/DFA): Proactively embed DFM/DFA principles into all stages of the design cycle for all internal harnesses, enclosures, PCB/PCBA’s , and electronic assemblies.
• Production Transition Leadership: Own and lead the technical effort to transition complex product-internal harnessing and packaging designs from low-rate initial builds to a high-rate production environment.
• Process Development: Collaborate directly with manufacturing engineers and suppliers to define, develop, and validate production processes, tooling, and test procedures to achieve required production rates and quality.
• Technical Design: Design and release detailed 3D models and 2D drawings for all internal wire harnesses, cable assemblies, and electronics enclosures that constitute the TeraWave product assembly using Altium , Creo , SolidWorks , and Windchill. Perform trade studies on component selection, materials, and manufacturing techniques to optimize for cost, schedule, and performance.
• Supplier Collaboration: Act as the primary technical point of contact for external suppliers, guiding them on design intent, resolving manufacturing challenges, and qualifying their processes for high-volume production.
• Analysis & Verification: Oversee and contribute to structural, thermal, and vibration analysis of electronic packaging. Develop and execute verification and validation test campaigns (qualification, acceptance, etc.).
• Mentorship: Mentor junior engineers, sharing best practices in design for manufacturing, product internal harness design, and product maturation.
Qualifications (Required):
• B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of experience in the design and delivery of electronics packaging and/or harnessing for complex systems as an integrated part of a final product .
• Demonstrated, hands-on experience leading the transition of a product from a prototype/development phase into a high-rate production environment.
• Proven expertise in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and cost reduction methodologies.
• Strong proficiency with 3D CAD software (Creo /Solid W orks preferred) for harnessing and mechanical design.
• Deep understanding of harness manufacturing processes, standards (e.g., IPC/WHMA-A-620), and quality control.
• Experience working through the full engineering lifecycle, including requirements definition, design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Qualifications (Desired):
• M.S. degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in the aerospace, satellite, or high-volume electronics/automotive industries.
• Expert-level user of the Creo Cabling/Harnessing module and Windchill PLM.
• Experience with ECAD/MCAD integration and tools (e.g., Zuken E3, Mentor Graphics).
• Experience with supply chain development and supplier qualification for high-reliability components.
• Hands-on experience with harness fabrication, rapid prototyping, and developing manufacturing work instructions.
• Knowledge of FEA tools (Ansys preferred) for structural and thermal analysis of electronics.
