Job Description Job Summary
The Specialist, Recreational Sports, under general supervision, assists in the oversight of the recreational center, intramural program, employee leadership programs, and/or administers fitness and wellness programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Assists in the management, planning, implementation, and marketing of programs.
• Manage special events, including scheduling and training special event staff, and coordinating facility reservations.
• Develops, implements, and monitors a comprehensive risk management plan.
• Develop short-range goals for the department’s programs and/or operations.
• Develop procedures for documenting and cataloging departmental business processes.
• Supervises all aspects of assigned program(s). Assists in recruiting hiring, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating assigned personnel.
• Supervises assigned staff.
• May complete payment transactions and receipt credit cards for the payment of memberships or special services.
• May purchase equipment, perform inventory, and/or oversee maintenance.

Additional Responsibilities • Coordinates and supports the day-to-day operations of assigned Recreational Sports program area(s), including programs, services, leagues, tournaments, competitions, clinics, instructional programs, camps, special events, and ensures facilities, equipment, and program spaces are prepared for scheduled activities and events.
• Conducts routine inspections of assigned facilities, equipment, and program areas and coordinates maintenance needs through established reporting procedures.
• Promotes safe operating practices and assists with implementing departmental risk management and safety procedures.
• Provides excellent customer service by responding to participant inquiries, resolving routine operational concerns, and fostering a welcoming environment.
• Assists with marketing and promotional efforts through participant communication, social media, website updates, outreach initiatives, and event promotion.
• Collaborates with campus departments, student organizations, and community partners to support programming and special events.
• Participates in departmental meetings, trainings, professional development opportunities, and assessment initiatives.
Minimum Requirements • Education – Bachelor’s degree.
• Experience – One year of related experience.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: • Word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
Ability to: • Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
• Communicate and effectively, orally and in writing.
Preferred Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: • Supervisory skills
• Strong computer knowledge.
• Possess effective leadership, time management, and customer service skills
Ability to: • Interact effectively and professionally with the general public and the students served.
• Plan, organize, assess, and perform tasks accurately and independently.
• Make effective presentations to students, Rec Sports members and TAMIU community.
• Provide excellent customer service and practical problem-solving assistance to internal and external customers.
• Interpret a variety of documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
• Multi-task and work both independently and in teams.
License/Professional Certification – • Must have or secure CPR/AED certification through the American Heart Association within 6 months days of employment
• Responsible for maintaining current certification(s)/licensure(s) required as a condition of employment and providing valid and legitimate proof of certification(s)/licensure(s) to the supervisor prior to the expiration date(s) of certification(s)/licensure(s).

Salary: $17.54/hour
